Habe jetzt auf dem Mac mal #parakeet CLI installiert für schnelle Transkriptionen und KI-basierte Dokumentationen (als GUI verwende ich #MacWhisper). Erster Test mit 30 Minuten Podcast-Audio (https://podcasts.cogneon.io/@datevlernt/episodes/dr-verena-mayer-uber-klassismus-fremd-in-der-burgerlichen-arbeitswelt) ergab ca. Faktor 30 (Transkription in ca. 50 Sekunden fertig).

#MacWhisper was not allowed. Despite being fully local.

These are decisions which get your confidential shit uploaded to Google Translate.

@blakespot i was thinking recently if they allow something like #macwhisper to takeower the voice recognition and execute shortcuts(the native app), it would be much more useful than Siri.

The local model (Nvidia Parakeet v3?) is so, so good. Multi-lingual voice transcriptions are the bomb. I ramble in German but talk English when thinking code & low-level project planning stuff – I'm weird, yes, but my point is: It works great.

Heads-up, the "sub now" is a bit in your face during setup but is fully skippable. Local model use is free.

There is still no free/local alternative to Simon Says and/or transcriptions in Resolve, Premiere or Avid for FCPX?

#MacWhisper and #Commandpost gets us so close but for whatever reason #FCPX doesn't support searching for keywords in the Browser, so you can't directly search the transcripts before you add them to timeline.

@latenite any ideas?

I'm currently trying the same thing. I used #MacWhisper dictation and that works incredibly well when using short burst dictation. I can also let it transform the input using #Ollama but that was less succesful.

I do notice that I prefer typing in cases where I need to structure my thoughts or when precision is required.

I just tried #MacWhisper for the first time to transcribe some recordings of interviews I did for a book project, and wow, it really nails it.

Well, there was some singing, and I can forgive it not getting those parts right.

There are almost an incalculable number of reasons to hate the application of LLMs everywhere (I lead an LLM-heavy project at dayjob, oh my goodness, do I know...)

But the primary one which has absolutely changed the way I work is local #dictation which *actually works* the way I need it to.

I use #MacWhisper for this, although there are a ton of options.

It's all local. It's fast. But the best thing is that it is incredibly good at skipping over "ums" and pauses. It doesn't care if I pause for 30 seconds to think about what I want to say next. There's not a rush because it's going to cancel and send everything to the cloud, half-baked.

MacWhisper also enables this in any type-able field on your whole Mac. I use this *constantly*.

Last week I tried #macwhisper, obviously a #macos UI for #whisper, for local #voicerecognition #transcription. The model is impressive but the UI not practical for getting work done.

#MacWhisper rides again! three hour plus video converted and captioned in around 37 minutes. You can follow along using the transcript if that's your wish.

A four hour 24 minute video transcribed in #MacWhisper only took 18 minutes. Madness.

Conclusion. #MacWhisper doesn't like large .mov or .mp4 files and will repeat text indefinitely after a certain point. Converting that file to .wav fixes the problem. Was able to do three transcripts first-time around with no repeats, using this method. Something to be aware of I guess.

I have concluded that the new Whisper V3 models are a bit pointless at the moment, and #MacWhisper is having much more luck with the older model, so I'm using that. Currently adding transcriptions to my live-streams, in hopes that such things help someone.

I love tools like #MacWhisper. They do such a good job of adding punctuation in the right places, and getting the correct feel for sentences and such.

#TIL: Minimising an application's window under #MacOS drastically reduces the application's computing power. Is this 'normal' behaviour or does it depend on the author of the software?
