I enjoyed their take on Mullvad. I'd argue that adding a brief additional note on https://www.privacyguides.org would be good; e.g. with a link to this video.
That would help Privacy Guides readers avoid choosing something that doesn't work at all for them in terms of values and what causes they support.

@TenebrisNox I got a refund from #mullvad after cancelling. The entire conversation with support was quite civil and they said they would pass on my remarks to management. I’ve been using #iVPN for a month now. It seems to work well enough but is lacking some of the features that I liked with mullvad. Speeds are comparable, in my experience.

Today, one of the co-CEOs of #Mullvad (no, not that co-CEO, the other one) gave a keynote at the Privacy Enhancing Technologies Symposium (PETS).
Someone passed these out while he was speaking.
I wasn't at the talk, but I hear the Q&A was spicy, all about this topic. I think it was recorded and will post a link if/when it goes up.

Worth remembering in the wake of the #mullvad donation, #mozilla #firefox moving back to #x and just #dhh and #rubyonrails - people and companies are actively funding these people and their hateful rhetoric.
This is happening very directly.
If they didn't have the gobs of money, they would be like you and me - posting on social media, volunteering, maybe a small donation here and there.
WITH the gobs of money, you can change society to hate the people you hate.

@martinsteiger Das hat ja auch keiner verlangt. Ich selbst stehe vor der Frage, wie (wenn überhaupt) sich #mullvad ersetzen lässt, das ist mit Sicherheit keine leichte Aufgabe. Warum ich wechseln möchte ist in zweiter Linie: Wie vertrauenswürdig sind diese Versprechungen noch? Auch ein gewisser Herr Musk hat sich vor einigen Jahren "absolute Meinungsfreiheit" auf die Fahne geschrieben.

Dear #Mullvad, after many years of using your services and recommending others do so as well, I've decided it's time to part ways.
My decision comes from the recent news that my money paid to you is indirectly supporting a fascist political party. Regardless of how you may describe it in a blog post, if I give you money and that money goes to, say, a co-CEO, who then donates that money to a political party with fascist ideologies, I am not going to feel very comfortable with giving the company any more of my money.
Your attempted stance on the grounds of political neutrality is moot, because we're dealing with intolerant fascists. If we tolerate those who are intolerant, we only allow for more intolerance to take over.
I hope your concerned employees create change from within. In the meantime, I'll find another provider that more closely aligns with my ideals.

I did only start using Mullvad a month ago so at least I have the peace of mind that my money was not used in this specific case of funding fascists. I was very happy with your service and it will not be easy to replace it. There is however a red line which cannot be crossed. There are enough tech-oligarchists like Peter Thiel, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and others calling themselves „free-speech-absolutists“ on this world.

just throwing my 2 cents into the #vpn choices and based on what i've looked at in the last few days.
(yes i'm moving away from #mullvad not in a cutting off my nose to spite my face sort of way)i've looked at the following and i've decided not to go with : #ivpn, #windscribe
i also avoided #kagi (incidentally also partnered with ws with discounts) which has AI , based in US and a paid model that I suspect I'll still be the product even though I paid. Either way, i've tested the free search and I don't find it life changing great.
the ones that made the 'okay' list was : #njalla, #xeovo, #riseup, #airvpn
i wasn't able to find (easily) a list of server locations with #njalla,
njalla, riseup and xeovo needed some sort of tech knowledge to get started, and its not ideal as i needed to get this for the household and mobiles.
only airvpn was one of the remaining that may had dubious twitter past. but it was the only choice left that had the server location i needed, so this was where i eventually land. mind, airvpn requires you to register with an account, so if you are worried about this, it's not for you. i don't use them for anonymity.
tbh, if xeovo had locations and native app setup, i will jump on it. right now it just felt like a compromise.

I haven't settled yet on what's a decent VPN alternative, although my current frontrunners are Njalla (run by a co-founder of The Pirate Bay) and Nebula by Defined.net. Not sure about their politics, but distributed and Nebula is FOSS which is a positive signal, while not a guarantee.
What I've ruled out:
ProtonVPN - Actively working with government against activists
Windscribe - Transphobic indications
Mullvad - Funding a fascist leaning partyI'd love to hear anything people have learned about the alternatives, either pro or against. Boosts appreciated for reach.
