  1. Extra comfort for election day #reading

Today is election day in Portugal and the future seems quite dark, asking for extra comfort and minimising anxiety.

I’ve been re-reading Dorothy L. Sayers’ Lord Peter, which is who one thinks is a good friend. The books are also funny and, most important,  things are cleared and end well (considering this is crime fiction :-)).

I started this re-read last year and after the first volume, read other books (I’m doing the same re-read with Austen and the Brontes), but after reading the second in the series, I can’t put them down and I’m starting the next as soon as I finish one. I’m now almost at the end of The unpleasantness at the Bellona Club and have the next in order of publication ready, which is Lord Peter views the body (12 short stories).

I’m also adding a spicy rooibos hot tea (it’s so cold here, both outside and inside!) and watching/listening one of the lovely Ali channels (go there and check both of her YouTube channels, I find her content so comforting!) while I’m reading.

  4. Viime aikoina olen muuten lukenut putkeen A. E. W. Masonin Hanaud-rikosromaaneja. Ostin Play-kaupasta lärpäkkeeseen semmoisen kaikki niteet muutamalla eurolla -tyyppisen koosteteoksen. Aina niitä lukee ennen kuin selkäänsä ottaa, vaikka toisaalta hyvin ymmärtää, miksi Hanaud jäi toisaalta #SherlockHolmes'in, toisaalta #HerculePoirot'n ja #LordPeterWimsey'n varjoon. #kirjallisuus #dekkarit #AEWMason

  5. It’s maddening to me that a swath of the Lord Peter Wimsey books aren’t available to buy or borrow as unabridged #audiobooks. What’s most mysterious is that I KNOW the recordings exist and were once out in the wild: my family borrowed “Murder Must Advertise” on cassette tape from the library for a road trip when I was a tween! (And yes, it was definitely unabridged. The cricket game lasted at least one entire National Forest!)

  6. Murder Must Advertise, from the BBC's 1972-75 Lord Peter Wimsey TV series based on Dorothy L. Sayers' novels, takes a remarkably jaundiced view of the world of the Bright Young Things.

Ian Carmichael was easily the best-ever screen Lord Peter.
