gonna toot at least this one. i love this ink, i adore it, i wish to just draw and draw and draw with it. 'tis Koh-I-Noor Technical Drawing Ink in Blue. 'tis acrylic ink so u cant put it in pens, but it can be used with dip pens, glass pens and brushes. here i used Leonardt Hiro 41 nib, for example.

the dragon here is basically a concept for one of my games and technically he's my character as well. am not doing gamedev now as it burns me out and i dont have enough personal resources for it, but i still sometimes think and even sketch my characters from there. this concept is tbh wrong. the dragon looks slightly different. i failed to capture what was on my mind. but i still love the sketch cuz i enjoyed it a lot and the ink was awesome to draw with.

I'm not getting my two #dipPens to cooperate with the dropper bottle very well. Might be #userError.

Half the big drops on the paper are from the wooden dipper. That one works okay for a sentence but often drips a big blob in the middle of a letter.

My solution thus far is to take an empty converter, siphon directly from the bottle, then pour hot water into it and siphon a few drops of water that spilt onto my hand. Shake it up, rinse the nib, after a few scratches it's working.

I think this is an Extra Fine point so, YMMV.

Next time I'll siphon water first or try directly from a glass jar instead of pouring from a tea kettle. lol

Warmup of the day, some ink bottles from life. Now that this is out of the way, time to work on my next pin designs which will feature bottles that could be read as either ink or poison (or maybe they will be poisonous ink)

I just read a website's privacy policy prior to making a purchase, and discovered that they quite openly state that they will share or sell my personal information (including contact details) with other businesses for advertizing purposes, and that those unnamed businesses will use said personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies, whatever those may happen to be.

I have emailed the business I actually want to buy from, and asked if an offline transaction is possible, as otherwise, I will be taking my custom elsewhere.

Easier said than done, however, as I am not aware of any other NZ retailer selling a fude nibbed dip pen - or any fude nibbed pen at all, if it comes to that, actual brush tips aside.

They say fountain pens are addictive, but I'm not so sure. I got my first fountain pen in 2007, and after 18 years I'm up to 10, most in regular use.

But no one warned me about dip pens! I got my first nibs and holder a month ago today, and already I have 3 holders (one of which fits 0 nibs in my possession) and 144 nibs! One hundred and forty-four!! In a month!!!

Which is quite appropriate in a way, as nibs for dip pens in their heyday were sold in 1 gross boxes (1 gross=144), and most of my nibs were made in the days when they were widely used.

Still, I think that's enough to be going on with.

Pen experiment: I tried the nib from a Jinhao 992 in a dip pen holder.
First dip: two lines of text. Not bad.
Second and subsequent dips: half to one line.

Today’s eBay find

Three Osmiroids— nibs are fine, one body is cracked. Parker 21 that has been superglued, Esterbrook with disintegrated sac, Sheaffer Snorkel which looks OK at first glance but I haven’t tested. Parker ink box has Waterman Blue-black in it, Green Skrip still has about 15 ml. The rest are drawing inks, mimeograph inks, stamp pad inks, acrylic paint. Two of the three dip pens look in good condition, the third has a rusted ferrule.

Whole lot was 45 USD

I keep most of my pens in a vertical faux-antique wooden box for 'letters' that I bought many years ago to hold unpaid bills and outgoing mail. The top tier is currently for #DipPens , the bottom two tiers for #FountainPens .
I should probably keep nibs or something pen-related in the little bottom drawer, but I've been using it to keep extra cash on hand, which I find handy.

Did a little random journal writing yesterday on US National Handwriting Day. Used a dip pen with a Zebra G nib, and Dipton brand shimmering ink in Coral Humming...

Quick thoughts on Jinhao 82 with glass nib— it is a true EF and it writes quite consistently but wet because of its “garlic bulb” shape, so if you do a full dip, in practice it’s more like an F or an M. Ink flow is pretty good, I didn’t have to mess around with turning the pen to get more ink (which you sometimes have to do with the spiral-shape glass nibs).

I don’t have a really good writing sample yet.

I've been 'dipping my toe in the waters' (hahaha) of using a dip pen as opposed to my more usual fountain pens.
Of course as a leftie it's a bit of a challenge, but having previously forced myself to become an 'under-writer' leftie has definitely helped a LOT. Have to work at the control, obviously.
I got some of my fountain pen inks to work ok with some vintage nibs, but i think it would be worthwhile to order some Indian ink, which I believe will be less likely to drip off the nib too easily or too quickly while flexing. I also could use a little set of those "Dinky Dips" tiny plastic inkwells... the plastic milk cap I'm using is a bit too shallow.
Having great fun so far! I love the scratchy scratchy, which i'm sure might drive others crazy. This sample is with Diamine Ruby Blues, a blue ink with a red sheen.
