Every time i see people use the Kakimori dip pen nib, all I see is them scratching their head and struggling with getting the line they want if it writes at all

Warmup of the day, some ink bottles from life. Now that this is out of the way, time to work on my next pin designs which will feature bottles that could be read as either ink or poison (or maybe they will be poisonous ink)

Indulging one of my more esoteric passions, #astrology, by working on a chum’s chart. It also means extensive use of #fountainpens, #dippens and #fountainpenink. Joy is the word I’m feeling. JOY! However, this toot is about #biscuits because I’m having one or three with a cup of tea while I work. This experience is likely to mean little outside of the UK, but unless you’ve had a Malted Milk biscuit smothered in Nutella and Crunchy Peanut Butter, you have not lived. Granted there’s no living terribly long eating these, but a little bit of what we fancy and all of that…

I just read a website's privacy policy prior to making a purchase, and discovered that they quite openly state that they will share or sell my personal information (including contact details) with other businesses for advertizing purposes, and that those unnamed businesses will use said personal information in accordance with their own privacy policies, whatever those may happen to be.

I have emailed the business I actually want to buy from, and asked if an offline transaction is possible, as otherwise, I will be taking my custom elsewhere.

Easier said than done, however, as I am not aware of any other NZ retailer selling a fude nibbed dip pen - or any fude nibbed pen at all, if it comes to that, actual brush tips aside.

I’m still trying to figure out my study in the new house. I’ve been relegated to the smallest room. Apparently, because we’re actual proper adults, we’re supposed to have a guest bedroom. Really? What’s wrong with the futon?

I’ve prioritised my desk, #fountainpeninks, #fountainpens, #dippens, notebooks and an abundance of drawing materials. Two #amps, two #guitars and one #pedalboard. I need a bigger room. Mostly, because I’ve also had to prioritise a WFH desk. In the same room! My flabbers were totally gasted when my lovely wife told me. So rude!!!

And now to the pedalboard (see pic). I apologise for the silicon baby fuzzface as opposed to the germanium version - there are reasons. The tremolo being sideways - only way it fits - and the other stuff (IFYKYK); the upside down reverbs - only way they fit; the appalling cable management - laziness; and the Strymon - again IFYKYK. I will not apologise for four drive pedals. There’s no such thing as too much OD 😉 I also apologise for the beige carpet. It came with the house. As @toga will testify, they don’t cope well with ink spills…

Here's the answer (not shown in pen holder as I don't have one of a suitable era).
The box originally held one gross - 144 nibs, or pens as they were then called.

I keep my spare nibs and other pen bits in this tin. It’s been home to all sorts over the years. Winnie the Pooh taught me to read when I was very little. I’m told I was three and reading the Pooh books to my sister. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but I was certainly reading and writing before I got to primary school…

Well that was a bloody stupid idea!!! @paradoxmo was absolutely right. I was all smug because I have a nib block and burnishing tools. I don’t think I’ve reduced the curve in the nib at all and my fingers are in tatters!!! 🙄😉

Speedball C4 nib dipped in Waterman Havana Brown. (AKA Absolute Brown, which is a ridiculous name. How can brown be an absolute? Is Waterman run by Siths?)

A couple of ink purchases from the gloriously traditional L. Cornelissen & Son in that London. Both inks are made from organic ingredients collected in Cambridge. Green Hawthorn smells just like the berries it’s made from. It follows a medieval English formula. The Walnut ink is made to an 18th-century formula. And guess what? It smells properly like walnuts. The green feathers on the Clairefontaine paper and ghosts horribly, so I’ll need to try something else. But the walnut is ticketyboo and a joy to use. Definitely not for #FountainPens, but a pleasure to use with all sorts of #DipPens.

They say fountain pens are addictive, but I'm not so sure. I got my first fountain pen in 2007, and after 18 years I'm up to 10, most in regular use.

But no one warned me about dip pens! I got my first nibs and holder a month ago today, and already I have 3 holders (one of which fits 0 nibs in my possession) and 144 nibs! One hundred and forty-four!! In a month!!!

Which is quite appropriate in a way, as nibs for dip pens in their heyday were sold in 1 gross boxes (1 gross=144), and most of my nibs were made in the days when they were widely used.

Still, I think that's enough to be going on with.

Platinum Classic Ink collection complete. It’s a lovely sight. While they all work beautifully in #FountainPens, I’m going to use them exclusively with #dipPens. They’re perfect. Especially with the fine, super-flexible nibs. Citrus is absolutely my favourite followed by Cassis I think.

Finished the Carbon Black #fountainpenink ink so decided to try Diamine’s new Raven Forever Ink. It’s altogether a different beast, but I think I like it. It takes a minute or so to properly dry on the 90gsm Clairefontaine, but once done doesn’t shift. I’ll put it in the medium nibbed 3776 later to see how I get on with the kids’ guitar tabs.

There’s nothing exciting about black ink, but we probably all need to use it at some time or another.

In Scotland in the 1970s, wine wasn’t something the working classes ever really drank. I remember with fondness the bottles of Bull’s Blood and Blue Nun at the dinner table when mum and dad were being ‘posh’. Decades later I like to think I can tell the difference between my clarets and burgundies and that’s because mum and dad decided to learn all about wine…

Today’s ink swatch is in honour of that Bull’s Blood wine from Romania: Dominant Industry Romania Red. It’s one of their standard inks, but because it’s so saturated it has some great sheening. Apologies for the “ghosting”. This is a super-busy notebook.
