  1. I remain so fascinated/appalled by that design director dude that left Apple who was like “yes yes, absolutely fuck yes that’s exactly what I want it to look like!!!” #liquidglass #liquidass

  2. My WhatsApp is finally showing Liquid Glass assets. Liquid Glass, not #LiquidAss because I’m using iOS 27 😅

  3. Enshittifying the hardware to lock the faithful into royalty-producing "Apple-approved" compatible accessories.

Then, constant slow degradation of UI/UX.

That culminates in Liquid Ass, which Saint Steve would have burned to the ground.

Now, pushing ChatGPT for everything - all stuff no one wants.

And somehow, the Tame Apple Press and the Apple Reality Distortion Field will bring forth enough cult members to sell millions of whatever crap the company wants to push on them.

[Remember "More powerful than a supercomputer, right on your desktop" ? Pepperidge Farm remembers. And no, I'm not an Apple fan, at least not the Apple of recent decades.]

  4. It’s 2026 and Apple is talking about UI redesigns so you can tell which window is focused. #wwdc #liquidglass #liquidass

  5. @prozacchiwawa @Seg

This is a drum I've been beating like the village idiot for years now.

I see a lot of factors:

    • the insane growth and popularity of iOS circa 2009-2015 meant that the iOS team dominated over the Mac team, and MacOS started imitating iOS as a kind of compensation (or for any other numerous, but spurious reasons)
      • iOS' design was great for a touch device. Not perfect, probably not as good as MacOS X for keyboard/mouse, but definitely one of the most intuitive touch interfaces. It makes for a crappy keyboard/mouse interface, particularly with the stupidly thin, buttonless, and disappearing scrollbars (I don't think scrollbars should disappear, even on mobile. They're an important marker for the size and position of the viewport)
    • The engineers, developers, and designers that laid the foundational principles for UI design in the 80s-2000s have almost all retired, or were simply ignored
    • Chesterton's Fence. If you haven't heard of it, the pertinent quote, prominently displayed in a blockquote on that page, is only 235 words long. Please read it. It's a very important principle

So yeah, younger designers got in, said, "Oh my, my, doesn't that all look so fusty! I'm gonna make it ALL better!"

And there we have "Liquid Ass," and the disease spreads to Windows and Linux desktops.

  6. See this ingenious Apple Liquid Glass Design template? Our brain immediately tries to recognise a logical pattern. Because the eye reads "Three" but sees a "Square", a moment of irritation arises. This is a perfect sign of poor user routeing in UI design.

  7. I've been dragging my heels so hard to stay on Sonoma but an IT-mandated upgrade finally pushed me to Tahoe . #liquidass #apple

  8. Here’s a good #liquidass #liquidglass UI fail: contact info comes up as white text over a blurry background image based on the contact photo (or just a gradient if none). Copying some of the info is a *rich text paste* so if you go to copy it into a place that accepts rich text like an email, you get white text on a white background.

  9. Oh no. My iPad auto updated iOS and it really is as badly designed as everybody said. #LiquidAss #iOS26 #Apple

  10. A tiny, tiny difference in font size bothers me to no end many times a day: «Verbinden …» is smaller than «Gerade aktualisiert» in iOS Mail. Feels like a fly buzzing around my head that I cannot catch.

    #LiquidAss

  11. from the folks who brought us #LiquidAss… I see that #Apple has updated the #AppStore app and now it takes an extra tap to see what app updates are available – great job with the #UX there Apple, no notes^ 👏👏👏

^ I do, in fact, have so. many. notes… 😩

  12. It just occurred to me, I've submitted more feedback (mostly negative) to Apple since the Liquid Glass "Dye job" than I have since owning my first Mac. Not a good sign... #liquidass

  13. #iOS / #iPadOS 18.7.7... because a significant portion of the #Apple userbase thought security was less important, than keeping OS26 off their devices. #LiquidAss #Never26

  14. If you put your iPhone or iPad in beta update mode to avoid them nagging you to install iOS 26 with LiquidAss, you should disable it and install 18.7.7 (bottom of the screen "also available") with *very* important security updates. Then re-enable iOS 18 beta updates to stop the nagging.

  15. @paul iPadOS version as well. Apple blinked in the face of a #LiquidAss boycott.

  16. When you launch your #iPad App with a great icon #Design, that speaks to the entire vibe of your app's #UI theme, with beautiful #Skeuomorphic delight, and 12 months later you change it to generic #LiquidAss #DesignSlop concentricity garbage.

  17. Sigh. In #iOS26 and #iPadOS26 26.4, the entire album UI in Music takes the colours from the cover art. Damn it, Apple, I want my user interface to look consistent, and I use light mode for a reason!
    #LiquidAss

  18. I have an iPhone SE that I didn't update to the latest #LiquidAss yet, it's still on iOS 18.7.1
But now there are important security updates and Apple is forcing me to update. They released a new 18.7.x but my phone model is apparently not allowed to install this update.
    WTF.
