  1. Open source should be about giving away things voluntarily. When you force someone to give you something, it's no longer giving, it's stealing. Persons of leisurely moral growth often confuse giving with taking.

This from Larry Wall (of Perl fame) seems relevant...

    The Three Virtues [Paraphrased]

    1) #Laziness - The quality that makes you go to great effort to reduce overall energy expenditure.

    2) #Impatience - Because you are impatient, you will build systems and shortcuts for your daily work.

    3) #Hubris - You have the confidence that you can do better than the status quo.

  20. @Perl After reading doi.org/10.1145/3386327, I’m imagining an alternate #WebDev history where #Netscape hired #LarryWall instead of @BrendanEich. (The latter previously worked for co-founder Jim Clark at #SGI, so as always it’s who you know.)

No, I don't think we would have #Perl in our web browsers (and possibly everywhere else). But #JavaScript might have started less #Self-ish and a little more Perl-ish.

  23. > The laziest people are often the best innovators.

This line made me think of #Perl's #LarryWall and his elevation of laziness to a virtue. This article by Laëtitia Vitaud keeps coming to mind. I'm hoping to link her ideas in "5 reasons why I refuse to be productive" to Lewis Mumford's ideas in _The Transformations of Man_

  24. @DistroJunkie I think the discussion is like do hackers want to run up against - this hack'n ain't or , or even !!
