  2. @bagder @Aissen #RichardStallman = fast via email + for specific things.

I did video conversion for him:

But when the work ended, so did #communication about other things I could do.

#RMS = less socially improving in the sense of building up a #movement with the #fans (developing with people)

Instead we're just developing software (even Mastodon) and a #tech #answer & not much people #pioneering social itself on top.

    Agree?

  4. @elsua54 Agree on that.

We HAVE people "already there" who "made it" as far as #software dev but not dev #fans, #users, a #tribe, as a human #movement from #following.

Somehow people-loving communication is still Tetris piece missing from all the admin below that I semi-respect!

  5. Ready Player One is about Privacy, Digital Rights and Ageism

A lot of people have a mixed bag of feelings when it comes to Steven Spielberg's 2018 masterpiece Ready Player One. They dislike the nostalgia bait, and the countless references. They poke fun at logical inconsistencies. Yet nobody can deny the fact that Spielberg apparently is incapable of making a terrible movie. Still, how many of you actually looked at Ready Player One seriously? How many of you thought about it's messaging? How many noticed the politics that Spielberg is hiding in plain sight?
  6. Why Free/Libre software is philosophically different approach for creating music?

"The industry has shifted to digital. This is where that illusion Stallman often spoke of really comes into play: you think you are the one giving instructions to your computer, but in reality, a corporation is the one issuing the commands, and the program will heed your instructions only to the extent the corporation permits. In the context of music, this means that corporations produce music, and you can express your individuality only as much as those corporations allow. You can’t extend the functionality of most modern DAWs however you please. Music creation has largely turned into the passive consumption of plugins; just as the listener is forced to "consume" music, the musician is forced to buy & consume plugins. Different plugins come into vogue at different times, influencing the sound of music and dictating what is trendy to experiment with."

  8. The hacker ethic refers to the feelings of right and wrong, to the ethical ideas this community of people had -- that knowledge should be shared with other people who can benefit from it, and that important resources should be utilized rather than wasted.

  11. This is probably old hat for the computer heads, but today I learned that a catalyst for the GNU General Public License was a broken, closed-source Xerox laser printer at MIT. 🖨️

As the winds of change blow around your computer, take comfort that printers have always sucked and will suck for your grand kids too.

  13. The Character Arc and Drew DeVault

In movies and books one dimensional, boring sort of characters, are those that never change throughout the story. Good stories contain character growth. A change in the character's world view. Think of Jake Sully in Avatar: He starts as a marine, ready to shoot and kill every living thing on Pandora. And end up being the leader of Pandoran resistance.

On the internet people tend to think that other people are set in stone when it comes to their believes. That other people are one dimensional characters without character growth what so ever. If one is born with a flaw, or has a recorded history of a flaw, therefore, using the logic of the citizens of the internet, this flaw is unremovable, untouchable, and unchangeable truth representing this person's every second of existence. That is so silly. The world is full of character growth. The world is full of people learning new things. The world is full of people that change their mind.

  17. If you are busy reposting #rms #RichardStallman because you agree with something he said, ask yourself if you also agree with his history of being a sex pest, fantasizing about underage girls, defending #epstein friends, and manufacturing narratives that blame the children abused by him for their assaults.

Why the hell is anyone following that piece of shit in 2026?

  18. Why genAI means the end of copyright for software and the re-invention of open source

Most of the discussions about the impact of the latest generative AI systems on copyright have centred on text, images and video. That’s no surprise, since writers, artists and film-makers feel very strongly about their creations, and members of the public can relate easily to the issues that AI raises for this kind of creativity. But there’s another creative domain that has been massively […]

  19. Using Talmudic Techniques To Understand Free Software

In the Wikipedia article about Talmud it says that:

It records the teachings, opinions and disagreements of thousands of rabbis and Torah scholars.

And if you know from books like Tanya which references the book of Nida on the first page, in the first paragraph, in the first sentence, you know that Talmud likes to link things Wikipedia style, and then argue those things, trying to find patterns.

What could be the pattern in linking a Wikipedia article and then talking about Wikipedia in an article about using Talmudic Techniques to understand Free Software?
