As I am approaching functional parity with my 1.0 code, I am noticing that I am able to reduce the number of lines of code of each module. Both versions use #QML but 2.0 uses #KDE #Kirigami which reduces the amount of boilerplate code needed for each function.
And yes, I have noticed that 2.0 runs much faster (especially in old hardware) compared to 1.0.

I'm facing a slight problem with my project.

#QT / #Kirigami doesn't show properly outside of KDE Plasma, I need to figure it out before I can think about a new release of Apollo.

Wyobraź sobie, że wyciągasz z plecaka płaski arkusz plastiku, pociągasz za jeden sznurek, a on w sekundę zmienia się w sztywny kask rowerowy. Albo zrzucasz na Marsa płaską paczkę, która po jednym szarpnięciu linki staje się gotowym habitatem. To nie sci-fi, to „kirigamoidy” – nowa technologia opracowana przez inżynierów z MIT.

Więcej niż origami

Większość z nas kojarzy origami – sztukę składania papieru. Ale badacze z MIT (konkretnie z laboratorium CSAIL) sięgnęli po jej bardziej zaawansowaną kuzynkę: kirigami. Ta technika dopuszcza nie tylko zginanie, ale też cięcie i łączenie elementów.

Zespół pod kierunkiem Akiba Zamana opracował metodę tworzenia tzw. struktur auksetycznych. To skomplikowana nazwa na coś bardzo prostego w obsłudze: struktury zbudowane ze sztywnych płytek połączonych elastycznymi zawiasami. W stanie spoczynku są płaskie jak dywan. Ale wystarczy pociągnąć za jeden, jedyny sznurek, by cała konstrukcja „napompowała się” do zaprogramowanego kształtu 3D.

Algorytm zamiast instrukcji IKEA

Siłą tego rozwiązania nie jest sam materiał (można to wydrukować na drukarce 3D), ale oprogramowanie. Naukowcy stworzyli algorytm o nazwie nawiązującej do Władcy Pierścieni: „One String to Pull Them All” (Jeden sznurek, by wszystkimi rządzić).

Działa to tak:

• Wrzucasz do programu dowolny model 3D (np. krzesło, kask, igloo).
• Algorytm „rozbija” go na mozaikę płaskich płytek.
• Komputer wylicza najkrótszą i najbardziej optymalną ścieżkę dla linki, która po naciągnięciu uniesie wszystkie elementy pod odpowiednim kątem.

Co najważniejsze – proces jest odwracalny. W przeciwieństwie do wielu wcześniejszych rozwiązań, tutaj wystarczy poluzować linkę, by konstrukcja z powrotem stała się płaska. To kluczowe w transporcie.

Od kasku w teczce po bazy na Marsie

Zastosowania są fascynujące. MIT pokazało już działające prototypy:

• Kask rowerowy: składa się na płasko, więc zmieści się w torbie na laptopa. Koniec z wymówką „nie wziąłem kasku, bo jest nieporęczny”.
• Meble: krzesło naturalnej wielkości, które po złożeniu można wsunąć pod szafę.
• Medycyna: szyny usztywniające na złamane kończyny, które ratownicy mogą trzymać w płaskich pakietach w apteczce.

Ale prawdziwa rewolucja może nastąpić w kosmosie lub podczas katastrof naturalnych. Zamiast wysyłać kontenery z gotowymi budynkami, można zrzucić stos płaskich „dywanów”, które robot (lub jeden astronauta) rozłoży jednym pociągnięciem linki. Inżynierowie z MIT już wizualizują marsjańskie igloo budowane w ten sposób.

To, co kiedyś było sztuką składania papieru dla rozrywki, dzięki matematyce staje się przyszłością logistyki.

Nice side effect of using #KDE #Kirigami is that the system themes will automatically update my app using highlight colors. Therefore, you can customize Clear.Dental to whatever color scheme you like!

Using #kde #kirigami , I redid the time selector to make it less likely to schedule a patient or blocker to 3:00 AM when you meant to place them at 3:00 PM.

One limitation I noticed that however which Python Qt API limits you to access Qt's Android API's

openssl.
A smaller issue was to setup scripts for building and bootstrapping.

Wondering why I've been so quiet on #Kirogi, my #KDE #Kirigami app to fly drones? Because Android is a nightmare! I've been slaving away at making the Android and desktop builds be at parity, and by far the hardest part was playing back the RTP (no RTSP) video feed. The fourth video stack I've evaluated (#GStreamer + qmlglsink) was finally the charm, not that it was all that easy to get going either. Proof shot attached! Thanks to the awesome @AleixPol for lots of help with the KDE Android SDK.
