I hate to end games in a sour note, but this section in the last levels of #JazzJackrabbit frustrated me a lot, it was clearly designed with Spaz's double jumping in mind, so if you happen to play as Jazz or Lori, you have to build momentum to reach the platforms, which becomes almost impossible because the actual space is so small it's easy to fall, still, the rest of the game is fun and the OST is groovy

The heat won't stop, and neither my #retrogaming streak shall, this time the honor goes to #jazzjackrabbit a zany 2d platformer from 1998 ... why do the final levels include the souls of the damned forever suffering the torments of hell in tree bodies?
I swear the previous levels included castles, beaches, Alice in Wonderland references, this came out of nowhere

Jazz Jackrabbit (2026) by haroldo-ok for Sega Genesis. A working prototype that streams PC-level data onto real hardware. It uses original sprite art, slopes and three sound effects. Enemies and items are still missing, but the physics feel right already.

Woke up suddenly thinking about #JazzJackrabbit.
Y'all, I don't think he was designed by #furries. He just doesn't have that #furry look to him.
Also when I looked up all three of the people credited for creating the series, none of them seem to be furries.
Does anyone have any evidence that they might be furries, to throw doubt on my hypothesis?

OpenJazz – Jazz Jackrabbit – Released for AmigaOS 4
Hi there,
Thanks for visiting my blog. 🙂
Screenshot by PuniWhen I visited OS4Depot today, I noticed that George Sokianos a.k.a. Walkero had released a new game port for AmigaOS 4. This time he brought over Jazz Jackrabbit to the platform! This is a fun and entertaining platform game series that was created and started by Epic Megagames back in 1994. After the first game, others in the series followed such as Jazz Jackrabbit 2 and Jazz Jackrabbit 3. You can read more about this on Wikipedia.
Screenshot by PuniWalkero writes in the documentation:
This is the port of openjazz to AmigaOS 4.
OpenJazz is a free, open-source version of the classic Jazz Jackrabbit(TM)
games. To play, you will need the files from one of the original games.
With the demise of DOS-based operating systems, it has become necessary to use
emulators to play old DOS games. Jazz Jackrabbit(TM) deserves more – and would
benefit greatly from new features.Jazz Jackrabbit(TM) is a PC platform game. Produced by Epic Games (then Epic
MegaGames), it was first released in 1994. The fast-paced, colourful gameplay
proved popular, and the game won PC Format’s Arcade Game of the Year award.
Many people still fondly recall the shareware versions. If you want to download the AmigaOS 4 port, please head over to OS4Depot by clicking here.
Screenshot by PuniKeep in mind that you’ll need the data files. Walkero has tested the port with the data files from the games from GOG (Good Old Games). They currently have a -84% discount on the Jazz Jackrabbit Collection right now if you are interested. 🙂
Thanks for reading. See you in another post here on the Old School Game Blog!

Roman “Kas1e” Kargin created a port of this game series back in 2012. Since then, the OpenJazz project has received several updates. It now uses SDL2 for example. Due to problems with the bonus stage on many platforms, it has been disabled in the new OpenJazz version. This stage works fine in Kas1e’s old port.
If you are happy about George Sokianos work, you can support him on Ko-Fi. There he shares news and other interesting information about his projects. 🙂

I never finished Jazz JackRabbit. I always loved it since I discovered the game on a shareware CD mid 90s. Trying to go more far, and finish it?! You can find all the collection on GOG Games.

Mistodon: #EpicMegagames' heavily-armed green lagomorph #JazzJackrabbit was drawn in #ANSIart by @Grymmjack, as he appeared in his seasonal 1995 #HolidayHare bonus disk, to appear on this date in last year's ADVENT23 #AdventCalendar.
