💜In #NewOrleans Saturday before Fat Tuesday is huge.
💛 Daytime Parades include
- Krewe of Iris, the all-women's parade
- Krewe of Tucks ("Friar Tuck") with its giant toilet float.💚 Then, at night, the Krewe of Endymion covers miles on the few streets that can hold its 37 huge floats and bands.
As I toot, it is starting on this web cam!!

I miss the streetcars running until about an hour before the parade, then running again almost immediately following the sanitation pickup at the end of the parade.
I've seen old films of the streetcars running in the background *during* the Rex parade.

Our first king cake of the season is from Tartine, in Greenville, New Orleans, recommended by some friends.
From appearances, I was expecting something like a usual New Orleans king cake but better - but it is different, seems more pastry than brioche dough - whatever they do works well.

(#Carnival continues y'all)#MardiGras in #NewOrleans incorporates history of the area. Mardi Gras Indians are Black people who memorialize the times when #NativeAmericans hid fleeing enslaved people and gave them a community.
Professor Longhair immortalized this subculture in his song Big Chief, which features busy, flowing piano riffs and skilled whistling over percussive big band. It's a classic Carnival song.
