So sieht also eine Inbox Zero aus! Ahja, das ich das noch erleben darf 🥲

@sylvia as a fellow #inboxzero, I hate it when companies use email as a throwaway notification channel. Every damn single thing gets emailed, especially with orders.
-
@sylvia Oh I hate that deluge of emails with every new order. #inboxzero it is, though I have to admit I don't process my do folder as religiously as i should

Have randomly decided in the last day or two to hit that ‘unsubscribe' link on the bottom of some of the dozens of emails I get in a day from random lists and businesses. Must be Spring!

#QUIK SMS is kinda perfect now, but there's one leeeeeeetle feature I do occasionally miss from the proprietary SMS program I was using:
It did a best-effort attempt to interpret those idiotic "Liked 'I am the very model of a modern major general...'" messages you get from iPhones and would just stick an emoji next to the associated message, rather than display the completely pointless message.
Of course, it couldn't do it for photos, only for text. And I'm guessing if there was more than one message in the chat that had almost the same text (such that the quoted part would be non-unique), it probably would've failed there, too.
So, minor sad on that one, but QUIK is actually better in a lot of ways, such as its ability to archive/hide messages (conversation) you're done with without deleting them.
That of course means that I could theoretically practice #InboxZero with my text messages.
Someday, guys. Someday. XD

One of my last #DataLogging work-related goals for the year was to get my email #inbox below 100 items. Let's see if I can keep it in the two-digit range for at least a month next year before things start accumulating again.
I actively file a lot of incoming emails so any left in the inbox items represent things where I feel I'm meant to be doing something.
Not #InboxZero.

At skrive noter hjælper mig efter at have overlevet et #stroke – to blodpropper i hjernen – i 2021.

My belated #Mastodon #Introduction. Here we go:
I’m a 40-ish #itprofessional and tech enthusiast from #Denmark. It all began with a Commodore 64 in the early 90’s. I like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Knight Rider, AirWolf, and The A-Team … oh yeah, and The Stand by Stephen King.
I live in a small village with my wife, our daughter, and our German Sheppard.
I am an IT professional working with #InformationSecurity, #OSINT, #ITIL, and #Quantitative Risk Management in https://www.aci.dk.
I find personal productivity tools, processes and methodologies very interesting. I’ve been an avid #GTD practitioner for many years and have had fun testing lots of different tools. I (try to) practice #InboxZero and currently have #Todoist, #BrainToss, #Obsidian, #Outlook, and #OneNote in my toolbox.I don’t work with hands-on technical IT anymore, although I still enjoy it. So I like tinkering in my #HomeLab with things like #networking, #Ubiquiti, #Proxmox, #HomeAssistant, #Pihole, #Github, #Linux #Jekyll, #Ansible and lots of other fun projects. #keeplearning.
I enjoy both the Danish and English language; speaking, writing and grammar. Alas, my punctuation sucks badly.
I find writing with a good #fountainpen on good quality paper to be very rewarding. It’s just a nice feeling. Creating notes is helpful for me, after surviving a stroke - two clots in my brain - in 2021. It resulted in what is called #WallenbergSyndrome. Most notably, for me, I just get tired a bit faster than I used to. Planning my days and a nap around noon is necessary 👍 😴
Ask me about any and all of it - I’d love to discuss, share, and learn!
For good measure: Opinions are my own.

Inbox Zero:

Tomorrow, back to work after two weeks off that were both restful and productive. And I go into the new working year with probably (as far as my records can tell) my first #InboxZero in about five years! Won’t last long, but nothing like a blank state to start back up from.

Trying a new way of dealing with GitHub notifications and TinyGo maintenance in general. I've been using Octobox for a while and it's nice, but it's a technological solution and cannot in itself fix the stream of notifications for a project like TinyGo.
Instead, my new approach is:
* Limit what repositories I'm actively going to, to what is realistic. For now, that's tinygo and drivers mostly, and mostly maintenance work.
* Work in two passes. The first pass is going through the notifications, replying where needed, maybe writing a bugfix if it's fast, but ideally not spending more than 15 minutes or so on a single issue/PR. If it's not something I can fix quickly, I'll star and archive it to put on the backlog. I can work on the backlog later. If I keep doing that frequently, I can keep the inbox (close to) zero.
* Decide for myself what I'm going to work on, instead of reacting to issue reports. Working reactively burns me out and leads to tons of unfinished PRs, which doesn't help anybody. Instead, I can pick what I am going to work on, such as: updating dependencies, documentation, refactoring, new features, etc. (Roughly in that order).I'm only starting, but I'm now down from 900+ notifications to just 8. So I should be finished very soon. Then I hope to keep this "inbox zero" approach working. I suspect that's going to be the hard part - sticking with this approach.

Someone asked privately, so I thought I should explain what the (no PDNA) means.
I use Smart Mailboxes in Mail.app, so I might sorta-kinda be lying about #InboxZero. The Smart Inbox I depicted in the prior toot is programmed to show everything except anything related to print shop orders, meeting room reservations, and messages to my department rather than me personally. I have other smart mailboxes for PageDNA, room requests, and department messages.

GUYS! I FINALLY DID IT AGAIN!
I'm at #InboxZero!
I'd maintained that status at the end of each day for quite some time, but fell behind and have watched my inbox grow larger and larger as the months went by.
But with todays' minimal load of usual print work (virtually none), I've had time to work on my primary inbox, and at this moment, it's completely empty!

I am still going on that monstor Gmail account of mine - trying to get to Inbox Zero: After some sporadic work over the last couple of days of deleting and archiving emails I am down to 81% of storage, 537 unread, 7,164 in the Inbox.
I am now delving back into the year 2014 when we moved from Sydney to Singapore half way through the year. I am on p. 150 of my inbox.
-
... End of another day: down to 86% of storage, 1,994 unread, 10,264 in the Inbox
I can see that the pandemic was a massive problem for my inbox. It is amazing how I was so busy stuck at home during Melbourne's lengthy lockdowns, and I didn't seem to get around to any inbox admin.
I have now gone back in time past the pandemic and Black Summer. My inbox was a lot better maintained, although nowhere near perfect.
I have discovered that when you get onto the 2nd page of the Gmail emails, the URL ends in #inbox/p2. So instead of clicking on the arrow to paginate, I can just change the page number. I am now around p. 65 of my inbox. I am doing quick and easy mass archiving/deleting. I will have to go back over the emails again when I have finished this round and do some fine-tuning of the labelling/archiving/deleting.
-
... a couple of hours later: My Gmail account is now 88% full with 4,228 unread emails and 13,932 emails in my inbox.
My method is to go backwards through my inbox. When I see an email from an account that is likely to have many emails, I search for all emails from that account. I did this to my messages from Duolingo and managed to delete over 550 emails, mostly unread, fairly quickly.
I have now got back to the pandemic. I was very active on Duolingo then - no surprises. I also had a lot of messages arising from people making changes to team Google Docs and Sheets. I was working as a magazine editor during the pandemic so everything was online. I was way too busy to do housekeeping on my Gmail account.
I have had the Gmail account since at least 2010 so I have got quite a way to go. I will leave it now, feeling pleased with my resolve and action today.
-
... a few hours later: I have now achieved a Gmail account that is down to 92% full. It was well over 8000 unread emails earlier today. Now I am down to 5,984 unread emails.
I am still working on it...
-
I am back to trying to achieve Inbox Zero on a Gmail account. Last week it was 96% full.
I have done lots of work deleting and archiving emails. It is now 94% full.
I will continue to work on it.
