🚲 Riding my new bike through my favorite trails was a blast! I still have a lot of configuring and adjusting before this bike feels like home but I'm super pumped (pun intended)!

В части 1 и части 2 мы подробно рассмотрели процесс создания загрузочного образа RDP-клиента на базе Debian 12. В результате у нас получился готовый к использованию образ, который можно записать на USB-носитель или установить на жёсткий диск. В некоторых случаях требуется уменьшить размер виртуального диска — не просто сжать образ, а физически уменьшить объём виртуального qcow2 -диска. Самый надёжный способ — создать новый образ с меньшим диском и перенести туда систему .

Aufgrund Umbauarbeiten ist mein CD/DVD/BR-Laufwerk bereits in einen anderen Rechner gewandert. Nun brauch ich aber das `/dev/sr0` auf meiner (alten) Workstation.

Und warum? #WeilsGeht 😆

1. Create custom Windows 11 #MBR #USB drive with secure boot and #TPM disabled.
2. Boot #Arch #Linux via #PXE and #NFS #rootfs on the server.
3. Expose PCIe M.2 SSD via #NBD.
4. Mount NBD on another computer.
5. Create #QEMU #VM on that other computer, give it access to the NBD and #boot from the USB drive.
6. Install Windows
7. Install GRUB on second USB drive.
8. Plug it into the server to chainload Windows.

The sun was shining at lunchtime so I snuck out on a first shakedown ride. New wheel bearings are arriving tomorrow, and I’ll replace the front tyre with a 2.6” when this one wears out, but other than that, job’s a good ’un. #mtb #nbd #cycling

Almost there now. Just need to trim the steerer, degrease and lube the chain, and ah: that back wheel’s a bit wobbly, replace some wheel bearings. There’s always something else … #mtb #cycling #nbd

#NBD Today, I finally picked up my 60th birthday present to myself (it was last October!), a North Road Cycles Grav-i-Ti. I got the tram down to Sale Moor and rode Nollaig back via the gravel/rocks/sand/cobbles tracks that run alongside the River Mersey, from Sale Moor to Stockport. Then onto tarmac for the last 9km home. Of course, it got filthy so had its first wash later in the afternoon, too!

I was considering #SquashFS for my #server #backup and did a little #benchmark. The results are surprising!

Time it took to run `mksquashfs linux-5.18.15/` from RAM to the NAS in my lounge room via different remote file access methods (100 MBit/s link, ping 21ms, best out of 3 runs):
NFSv4 - 35.843s
SSHFS - 23.278s
NBD - 21.966s

I would've assumed that #NFS beats #SSHFS by a long shot!
