  1. I was wondering why GNOME's i10n platform is called "Damned Lies"?

I searched and I only found a link to "Lies, damned lies, and statistics" article on Wikipedia. After understanding the context a bit, I wasn't sure about the link between this and the localisation web app, so I asked in the @gnome I18n room on Matrix, and Alexandre generously explained it. Since there was no online explanation, I wrote a post about it on my blog. Hope it helps.

  2. Haven't gotten any new work in a long while. Anyone else struggling with a lack of clients?

  3. As we enter Easter season and I’ll have less time to work on Spark, I decided to at least start localizing the app. At the beginning, I’d use Polish, my mother’s tongue. 😜 I thought it’d be easy, but I encountered more problems than I expected!

  4. I just updated my little Laravel Translate project! 🎉

It now works like a regular Artisan Console command, and even includes a 'db' module to translate values from your Model attributes already stored in the database.

    Check it out! 👀 codeberg.org/vatt/Laravel-Tran

  5. Duh! Suddenly, most of my App Store update descriptions are displayed in German… #wtf #l18n #i10n

  6. #gettext #deepl assisted #i10n of #po files

$ msgget # copy msgid as msgstr to new file

    script:
    ---
    #!/usr/bin/bash

    read msg

    # curl the msg via deepl api | jq --raw the output
    ---

    $msgfilter --keep-header -src.po ./script

    # pay attention to encoding in *.po header

et voilà, basic, crude translation of thousands of lines in more than 30 languages

Afterthought: I deal with newlines via sed /\\n// , sometimes via #vim

  7. Yay, #i10n of my #SmallWeb is at hand! After a long day wandering around #jq and #bash a script was born to expand / alter my dictionary #json that is used to auto localize menus and the gang via browser lang (en as failsafe)!

The whole #php function is really just a few lines and the blog has native text for most of EU / world.

I'm off to commenting the sh and then bed. Will post source on my blog in coming days.
