  1. This week's #TuneTuesday theme is #WhatShallWeDrink. For some reason, this was the first song that came into my mind (no, I don't drink gasoline!):

  2. "Spoonful" is a #blues song written by #WillieDixon and first recorded in 1960 by #HowlinWolf. Called "a stark and haunting work", it is one of Dixon's best known and most interpreted songs. #EttaJames and #HarveyFuqua had a pop and R&B record chart hit with their duet cover of "Spoonful" in 1961 and it was popularized in the late 1960s by the British rock group #Cream.

  3. March 1956 saw the release of Howlin’ Wolf's 'Smokestack Lightnin'.

Since then, it has become a blues standard, winning a Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999 in recognition of its historical significance as an indelible part of the American songwriting canon.

"Not so much a song as a mood: insubstantial as a smoke ring melodically and lyrically, yet gigantic as a gathering storm in rhythm and power."

"He did not just sing the blues; he embodied them.
    He was a howling wolf!"

  7. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    Red Rooster
    1982 Italy pressing

Tuesday morning done right, with a little Howlin’ Wolf and some apple pancakes.

One of about 150 different HW records I own, most of them having the same set of songs on them. 😂
    Same with my LEADBELLY records.

If I just see one with a different cover, or even a slight variance of track sequencing, I’ll buy it.

Can’t turn down buying ANY kind of album by those two gentlemen.

With Howlin Wolf, if it’s got “Killing Floor” or “Red Rooster” on it, it makes it automatic.
    This has both. 😂

  8. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    Evil
    1977 U.S. reissue

A little Chester Burnett on a wet, raw nasty day outside.

I knew on my ride home today that this was what I was going to listen to once I got home.

There’s never a bad time for HOWLIN WOLF, but today is DEFINITELY a good time for Howlin Wolf.

One of MANY records of his I have, and there’s no bad or underwhelming song on any of em.
Dude was a master, and one of the ten most important artists in the history of popular music.
And no, I did not stutter.

  9. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    The Real Folk Blues
    1966 U.S. MONO pressing

Kind of a quiet, pensive Tuesday night ‘round these parts. So I’ve poured myself some Macallan and have called on The Wolf.

This is one of the more valuable records in my collection, as clean as it was when it was first opened (not by me) in 1966.

One of many Howlin’ Wolf records in my collection, and probably my favorite.
There’s just something about throwing this on, and hearing “Killing Floor” right after the needle drops. One of the most vicious and nasty blues songs ever.

All these songs were originally released as singles, and were then gathered for this compilation in ‘66.

Twelve classics in just over 32 minutes, it’s one of the more relentlessly intense collections of the genre by any artist.
Also, bonus points for the appearances of Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and Willie Dixon.
