`Dixon's progress on the upright bass came to an abrupt halt with the advent of World War II, when he refused induction into military service as a conscientious objector and was imprisoned for ten months. He refused to go to war because he would not fight for a nation in which institutionalized racism and racist laws were prevalent`

Musical Interlude: Here's something pretty harrowing and intense, and it's a great demonstration of the serious pipes on the lady singing here, the late Koko Taylor. Be careful if you have headphones on...she could blow out your eardrums.

Sonny Boy Williamson, The Real Folk Blues, 1966 on Chess
This album was first released in the UK in 1965 as In Memorium, (Williamson died in May of 1965). In the US it was retitled to The Real Folk Blues and released in 1966. Later reissues have appeared with either title in different regions.
This is one of my favorite blues albums of all time – Williams is backed here by Willie Dixon, Luther Tucker, Otis Spann, Fred Bellow, Matt Murphy, […]

Good Morning Little Schoolgirl
Originally posted on September 10, 2018
Sixty years ago today, Rod Stewart recorded this classic, albeit creepy blues classic. For Stewart it was the first single of a long and storied career that continues today.
As an added bonus we hear a young John Paul Jones on bass guitar.
Legends all around.

Buddy Guy’s autobiography had some interesting things to say about how Willie Dixon came to be the “author” of so many blues classics. Nonetheless, as far as variety of artists and amazing songs go, you just can’t beat this box set! #music #vinyl #VinylRecords #vinylcollection #nowPlaying #blues #williedixon
