Called "a stark and haunting work", it is one of Dixon's best known and most interpreted songs. #EttaJames and #HarveyFuqua had a pop and R&B record chart hit with their duet cover of "Spoonful" in 1961 and it was popularized in the late 1960s by the British rock group #Cream.

It is the opening track on the band's second album, #LedZeppelinII, and was released as a single in 1969 in several countries; as with other Led Zeppelin songs, no single was released in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it became their first hit and was certified #gold. Parts of the song's lyrics were adapted from #WillieDixon's "#YouNeedLove", recorded by #MuddyWaters in 1962.

Willie Dixon, Mighty Earthquake And Hurricane, 1984 on PA USA
Though one doesn’t normally think of Dixon as an eighties artist (he started putting out recordings in the late 50s) he was still making great music into the 80s before passing in 1992. He also toured behind his album well into his 60s.
The band here includes Freddie Dixon (bass), Jimmy Tillman (drums), John Watkins and Johnny B. Moore (guitar), Billy Branch (harmonica), and Lafayette Leake (piano) – what Dixon called The Chicago Blues Allstars. Recorded in Chicago at Universal Studios by Stu Walder, with Dixon producing.
PA USA, with it’s American flag logo, was actually owned by an Italian company “Produttori Associati” (Manufacturer’s Association), but put out some great jazz and blues in the 70s and 80s – but later lost a multi-million dollar lawsuit for failure to pay royalties.

Sonny Boy Williamson, The Real Folk Blues, 1966 on Chess
This album was first released in the UK in 1965 as In Memorium, (Williamson died in May of 1965). In the US it was retitled to The Real Folk Blues and released in 1966. Later reissues have appeared with either title in different regions.
This is one of my favorite blues albums of all time – Williams is backed here by Willie Dixon, Luther Tucker, Otis Spann, Fred Bellow, Matt Murphy, […]
