  1. “Killing Floor” was a 1964 hit single by blues legend Howlin’ Wolf, and appears on this 1972 compilation Chester Burnett aka Howlin’ Wolf. Led Zeppelin used it as the basis for “The Lemon Song” and credited Burnett, Howlin’ Wolf’s real name. #howlinwolf #chicagoblues #vinyl

  2. MUDDY WATERS
    The Best of Muddy Waters
    2025 Europe Ltd. Edition reissue

Having a hard time getting up and going this morning, and I suppose this isn’t helping. 😂

Saw this in the used bin the other day (who the hell disposes of Muddy Waters records?!?!), and I couldn’t resist.

Ten years ago, I really didn’t own that many blues records. However, over the last decade I have really started to accumulate a LOT of them. Other than Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, and John Lee Hooker, there’s no artist I have more records of than Muddy.

This collection SOUNDS really good. I was very pleasantly surprised by that. It’s borderline audiophile to my ears, and I wish all blues reissues took the same aural care as this one does.

Sail on, my little honey bee.
    Sail on.

  4. Jimmy Reed - "Bright Lights Big City" (1961)

Another cool album my parents played a lot when I was a child. These things tend to stay with you for the rest of your life.

  6. My pick for this week's #MusicWomenWednesday is a video from the 1967 American Folk and Blues Festival. This is Koko Taylor doing a live version of her great hit from the previous year, backed by a stellar group of musicians including Little Walter on harmonica, Hound Dog Taylor on guitar, Dillard Crume on bass and Odie Payne on drums.

This line-up even visited Finland, playing a show at Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki on October 12, 1967.

  7. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    Evil
    1977 U.S. reissue

A little Chester Burnett on a wet, raw nasty day outside.

I knew on my ride home today that this was what I was going to listen to once I got home.

There’s never a bad time for HOWLIN WOLF, but today is DEFINITELY a good time for Howlin Wolf.

One of MANY records of his I have, and there’s no bad or underwhelming song on any of em.
Dude was a master, and one of the ten most important artists in the history of popular music.
And no, I did not stutter.

  9. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    The Real Folk Blues
    1966 U.S. MONO pressing

Kind of a quiet, pensive Tuesday night ‘round these parts. So I’ve poured myself some Macallan and have called on The Wolf.

This is one of the more valuable records in my collection, as clean as it was when it was first opened (not by me) in 1966.

One of many Howlin’ Wolf records in my collection, and probably my favorite.
There’s just something about throwing this on, and hearing “Killing Floor” right after the needle drops. One of the most vicious and nasty blues songs ever.

All these songs were originally released as singles, and were then gathered for this compilation in ‘66.

Twelve classics in just over 32 minutes, it’s one of the more relentlessly intense collections of the genre by any artist.
Also, bonus points for the appearances of Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and Willie Dixon.

  11. Junior Wells' Chicago Blues Band with Buddy Guy - Hoodoo Man Blues

What can you say about this classic?

One fun fact - Buddy Guy was originally given a pseudonym on this LP ("Friendly Chap") because Delmark (records) thought he was under contract to Chess, and they didn't want to ask/pay...

  13. MUDDY WATERS
    The Best Of Muddy Waters
    1958 Canada MONO Compilation

One slayer after another, and one of the most legendary musicians ever.

If you’re making a list of artists who are responsible for #rocknroll as we know it, your list is null and void if Muddy’s name isn’t on it.
That is a fact that cannot be argued.
    Don’t embarrass yourself.

    Long live McKinley Morganfield.

  15. “Born in Chicago” from the Paul Butterfield Blues Band’s classic self-titled debut album released in 1965. That’s Butterfield on vocals and the estimable Mike Bloomfield shining through on guitar. #paulbutterfield #mikebloomfield #chicagoblues #blues #vinyl #recordcollection

  16. I didnt need to think for long, definitely looking forward to, later this year, attend a concert by #SunRaArkestra and it’s magical and experimental music from space. Now led by 99 year old (!) bandleader #MarshallAllen, after the passing away of Sun Ra himself, 30 years ago, in 1993. After going to see #Blondie last month, this sure is a next level challenge.

  17. Chicago blues guitarist Magic Sam was born today in 1937. He was a monstrously good player, even when he was shredding on someone else's guitar. Sadly, Magic Sam died in 1969 just a few months after this clip was shot.

  18. My vanity project ,telling stories about each of my #VinylRecords continues. This is a 2022 re-release of a 1991 classic, Buddy Guy's "Damn Right I've Got The Blues," with a quality cover and blue #ColoredVinyl. Even if you're not a #blues fan, the first two tracks should knock you on the floor, and then think about whether you're a blues fan or not, hmm? I love Buddy Guy so much.

"I Am A Man" by Bo Diddley

I can make love to you baby
