  1. MUDDY WATERS
    The Best of Muddy Waters
    2025 Europe Ltd. Edition reissue

Having a hard time getting up and going this morning, and I suppose this isn’t helping. 😂

Saw this in the used bin the other day (who the hell disposes of Muddy Waters records?!?!), and I couldn’t resist.

Ten years ago, I really didn’t own that many blues records. However, over the last decade I have really started to accumulate a LOT of them. Other than Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, and John Lee Hooker, there’s no artist I have more records of than Muddy.

This collection SOUNDS really good. I was very pleasantly surprised by that. It’s borderline audiophile to my ears, and I wish all blues reissues took the same aural care as this one does.

Sail on, my little honey bee.
    Sail on.

  2. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    Evil
    1977 U.S. reissue

A little Chester Burnett on a wet, raw nasty day outside.

I knew on my ride home today that this was what I was going to listen to once I got home.

There’s never a bad time for HOWLIN WOLF, but today is DEFINITELY a good time for Howlin Wolf.

One of MANY records of his I have, and there’s no bad or underwhelming song on any of em.
Dude was a master, and one of the ten most important artists in the history of popular music.
And no, I did not stutter.

  3. HOWLIN’ WOLF
    The Real Folk Blues
    1966 U.S. MONO pressing

Kind of a quiet, pensive Tuesday night ‘round these parts. So I’ve poured myself some Macallan and have called on The Wolf.

This is one of the more valuable records in my collection, as clean as it was when it was first opened (not by me) in 1966.

One of many Howlin’ Wolf records in my collection, and probably my favorite.
There’s just something about throwing this on, and hearing “Killing Floor” right after the needle drops. One of the most vicious and nasty blues songs ever.

All these songs were originally released as singles, and were then gathered for this compilation in ‘66.

Twelve classics in just over 32 minutes, it’s one of the more relentlessly intense collections of the genre by any artist.
Also, bonus points for the appearances of Buddy Guy, Otis Spann and Willie Dixon.
