I bought an Etta James album (“Let’s roll”) some weeks ago in a small music store in Uppsala. I thought #EttaJames was on my list of musicians whose voice I like but don’t have any album so far. Today we listened to that album. Turns out, I did not remember her, but wow, she’s amazing! #Blues at its best, definitely need more of her

I lied, this is the stereo version. Didn’t get a lot of stero separation though. Often, especially on old recordings like this, you get hard-panned instruments, and everything is kinda centred.
Still quite lovely tho.

This is the recent 180g Atlantic 75 pressing, and whoooooooo boy, it’s lovely. Her voice is so intensely compelling.
It’s a mono, but it does that depth thing that good mono recordings have. All the instruments are clear, and have space around them.
Note, I’m playing it via a stereo cart, out two speakers, so not eeking out the full potential.
