Chickens got a new coop yesterday that should handle the winter. We fell behind schedule winter proofing their regular home so we had to improvise a bit. Keeping around 15C inside when it's -15 outside currently should be enough for the winter. #HensOfMastodon #chickens

Went to feed the chickens this morning and one was missing. Found it on the roof, confused and apparently too afraid of heights to jump down again 😂 had to herd it through the barn to a section with more shelves so it could get down #chickens #HensOfMastodon

🐔 As it's #PoultryDay here is a picture of my gang from last year. After losing one hen to a dog attack, and another to a fox, I bought a dog pen. It's strong, and it can be moved onto fresh grass every few days.
My hens are Blackrocks. They're friendly, lay very well, and are as tough as old boots. They don't mind getting wet, and they tried to eat all the recent snow! 🐔

We’re so proud of Aila. She’s been doing so well being brave with all the others in her new flock. She even went to bed in the coop all by herself without any coaxing at all!
Strawberry still picks on her, and Binky likes to join in, so she still spends much of her time on the higher perches or the “sky bar” ontop of the coop. She is such a sweet and gentle hen 💚
