Yesterday @jillianmarisa read me an SM post from a person talking about how raising hens for eggs isn't about saving money. It listed lots of expenses, time sucks and hi-jinks. We both laughed. It's true.
Then, that night one of the new ladies took too long to go to bed. The auto-door went down locking her out. The new ones are always playing dumb games... Kids. 🙄
We have heavy predation pressure here, so I went to "rescue" her and put her to bed. And what thanks so I get? She attacked my face.
So, yeah. Most def not about saving money.

Anyone following The Chick Diaries:
My chick in my pocket aka Bo Cheep we raised in our kitchen after he was rejected by his mother. He’s a teenager now (with the emo hair and demeanour to match).
His current two mates - Bruce and Bree - are his brother and sister and it’s not a great idea having two cockerels and one hen. The boys have already started squabbling and having “cockadoodle-offs” so they’re going to live with my mother in law’s girls and and we’re off to find him some new girlfriends this week to come live with us.

Fleur's story reminds us that there is no "good" exploitation. Labels only hide injustice behind comforting words, and Fleur inspires us to keep fighting for the hens who still suffer on farms everywhere. 🐔

Yesterday, one of our hens produced a huge egg. It is about 73 mm high. Compared to an average egg (see left egg on the image) this is really huge. 🤣
