#1: First store where you bought a TTRPG

Cant actually remember if I've bought any of my ttrpg books. I dont own that many - most of the ttrpg books back home belong to my dad and I just politely nick them - and the ones I do own have mostly been Christmas or birthday gifts. There is a small game shop just a short train ride away though that have had dnd books and I definitely bought a set of dice there.

20. How did I get into RPGs.

I think it was when I was reading a 2000AD Summer Special in the mid/late80s. There was an article about D&D and I thought it sounded interesting. I bought the Moldvay box, recruited some friends, and never looked back!

15. Memorable relationship one of my characters has had

A game run by @TheTweedmeister , perhaps Age of Arthur? One PC was a half-fae Queen. I was her loyal bard and advisor. The characters were friends and colleagues.

But Arthurian gaming must have unrequited love. With the Queen's player's permission, my bard was madly in love with the Queen, while she loved her husband.

The characters had a really tender relationship, helped by all the players treating it maturely.

14. Favorite object one of my characters has owned

I really don't know! I've spent most of my time GMing, and when I do play most of the games are shorter blocks.

But to turn it around, one of the favourite gaming things that I own is my collection of All Rolled Up gamer-stuff holders. They're excellent. I can't recommend them highly enough. Ask @PaulBaldowski for some details.

13. Have I played larp?

A few times. The one time I did rubber-sword larping was for my stag party! We all took it about as seriously as you'd expect.

I've done a few freeform / parlour larps, mainly at the #Glorantha cons. I'd like to try some of the Nordic larps, but I'm not sure how to get into that scene.

12. Have I designed a dungeon?

A couple, when I first started with D&D. But not many.

I try to come up with interesting places to have action scenes, and I find the Concept Cards from Artemis Games useful to prompting interesting places and people. https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse/pub/6001/Artemis-Games

But when I'm designing situations for games, I normally start with the relationship map, incorporating needy NPCs and an unstable situation so everything's in motion. A social dungeon, if you will.

11. Have I played a hex crawl?

No.

I can't see the point of them. The closest I got was looking at the Isle of Dread scenario in the D&D Expert box, and being rather confused about the whole thing.

I feel the same thing about sandbox play, and much genre-celebrating play, where the intent is to replicate the "feel" or "tone" of a genre, rather than make an engaging game with meaningful decisions.

So, hexcrawls. The reason why I don't like most Call of Cthulhu.

9. Favorite TTRPG for its writing

Not quite the question, but my favourite writing in RPGs is the GM advice bits in the Bakers' games (Dogs in the Vineyard, Apocalypse World, &c). I like that they have friendly and personal voices. It helps me to find the game as something accessible, that I can do. I may not do things perfectly, but neither do they!

Plus, the text is well-written and clear, with obvious and easy-to-follow instructions.

8. Favorite TTRPG for its art

I'm not a great one for the aesthetics of games. But how can I not mention...

Everway.

A game based almost entirely around art. Characters, places, situations, all get inspired by "vision" art cards. Resolution is by a Tarot-like deck of cards, where you interpret the image on the card rather than use numbers.

I'll also mention Sam Liu's work in the original RTal Cyberpunk. That strong line art fitted the game perfectly.

6. A favorite character I've played

I'm a "forever GM", so I don't get to play many characters.

One favourite th ough was from Scott Dorward's "Time and Tide", Innsmouth 30 years later, using Primetime Adventures.

@jamesmullen suggested he play the PA of the recently-murdered mayor of Innsmouth. I responded that I should play the mayor.

So I did.

I spent the first couple of sessions interacting through pre-recorded messages and the like, before "coming back" from the dead.

5. Game I've played the most.

This could easily be a misleading answer.

From mid-80s to about 2000, I played #RuneQuest , #HeroQuest and other #Glorantha games.

Then early 2000s I jumped on the #IndieRPG bandwagon (thanks, Scott!). Since then, I've played a huge variety of games, constantly trying out new and different games. It's now rare that I return to a game after a dozen sessions or so.

I'd like to run Apocalypse Keys. The genre's not normally my bag, but the system on the game looks clever as hell, and I'd like a chance to make it run.

7. Rpg I’ve spent the most money on but never played.

Tricky question. I spend the most on games that I’m playing.

One game that comes to mind is Amber Diceless, although that only has two books. But if you include Lords of Gossamer and Shadow, which is effectively a second game, that’s more. I would like to try it someday.

I also went all in on Harn recently. I’m not really sure why. The world is interesting, but I’d prefer a different system.

Though Fabian’s work in #ADnD2e was phenomenal, I fell in love with #VampireTheMasquerade 2e when I saw its pages; Changeling elevated that to the next level: it was bold and bright, and Leif Jones’ art subtly surreal. Precious few other RPGs were printed in full colour at that time, and it set the game apart. (Honourable—more recent—mentions go to #Aquelarre and #RuneQuestGlorantha. Again, bold and bright and atmospheric.) #gtkm

15. Memorable relationship one of your character has had

The last Twitch #TTRPG campaign I played was #MasksOfNyarlathotep with Garblag Games.

We only played the new prologue. It was the first time I played a queer character. Jayden Wallace Bridge was an homme fatale, and I loved playing up the Femme Fatale tropes with no other than Jackson Elias as the subject of my affection.

Knowing what the Masks actually opens with, it would have been great to play beyond the prologue.

4. First TTRPG you bought from its creator: This question confuses me because of how many ttrpgs are published. Any of the games I've purchased could be from its creator if they get paid. The one that stands out to me most may be Erick Wujcik for #TMNTandOtherStrangeness or #AmberDiceless RPG.

HOWEVER, my first purchase in a shop probably was at Les Trois Rois in #Charleroi. It was still located in Ville Haute (Rue des Trois Rois) before they moved to Rue Willy Ernst.

It was such a marvelously packed tiny shop. I still have a carbonite Han Solo t-shirt I bought there.
