  1. I have hope that #Trump’s missteps in the Middle East might actually do more to shift us away from a #fossil-dependent way of life than many others who are trying to do so with good intentions. #GlassHalfFull Still, I wouldn’t want to give him an award for it.

  2. When you take a step back from the chaos and clickbait: Historically, in the past around 20 years, the average import tariff rate in the USA was around 12-16%. Though highly different rates based on product/sector and country of origin were used. So when the newest Trump Tantrum leads to a simple flatrate 15% import tariff rate on everything, that's actually a step forward and congress should agree to that after 150 days. Will also save a lot of costs on bureaucracy ;)

  3. Just thinking out loud. If Alberta separates from Canada, will #PeePee lose his federal riding... again? Will he need a visa to enter back into Canada?

  7. On the plus side, stumbling across a bug and learning that it's already been reported goes a little ways towards tempering my #ImposterSyndrome (or at least vindicating a small portion of my sanity).

Those two hours of wrasslin' with it until you locate the report though...

  8. #GlassHalfEmpty: Streaming services used to drop full seasons to binge but now they are back to cable with one episode per week. Shame on them!

#GlassHalfFull: My kids now understand how we felt, eagerly awaiting the next episode but we gained the freedom to watch it at a convenient time. And watch it again to note the hidden clues.

  9. Be glad Australians.
Be glad we don't have a cooker controlling our national #Health policy

  10. Good Morning #Canada
Yesterday, we upgraded our water filtration and, to ease the pain in my wallet, I thought I would share some facts on well water for those who care.
    - approximately 11% of Canadians rely on non-municipal water sources.
    - the vast majority of wells are drilled wells because they are safer, provide higher volume, and generally last longer.
    - dug wells (like ours) are less common and are usually placed where there is a high water table. They are more susceptible to surface runoff.
    - well water, although free, is not necessarily cheaper than municipal supply. There is a large upfront cost, which can vary greatly depending on soil conditions, but $25K for drilled and $10K for dug is not uncommon.
    - a pump and filtration equipment can cost another $10K, depending on water treatment needed. We needed an additional Iron Filter due to high concentration. Sediment filters and UV treatment require annual maintenance, typically $400+.

  11. @MorpheusB Very interesting! The bottom line for me is that optimism might be more socially tuned or consistent, making it easier for like-minded people to connect. Pessimism, on the other hand, is more individualised, and maybe that’s why pessimists often feel more isolated or misunderstood?

On the positive side, he never has to apologize for something he's done because he rarely remembers doing it.

  13. @johnskk @ThePfromtheO I didn't build the cookie consent thing, it's the one Google provides to publishers. It's 5 toggles, IIRC, and then confirm. Tedious but, from using the same form on other sites, once you do it once it remembers it for like 30 days or something - and it's not as bad as the ones which make you toggle off 70 'legitimate interest' toggles one by one so #glasshalffull 🥛

  14. I guess one of the positive things coming out of me looking into the comments on the kerfluffle is that it's given me some insight into which instances I _don't_ want to migrate to(assuming I eventually do) and which people I _don't_ want to be associated with.

So...I got that goin' for me.

Lot's of sad, shitty words, and behaviour all around.

  15. Woke up this morning with a gift from my granddaughter, a full-blown cold. She brought it with her at Christmas and somehow left a little bit behind. First cold I've had in over 5 years which is one of the positive impacts from the COVID era, with masking and vaccines and generally trying to be healthier. And I now have a good excuse to stay in bed all day.

  16. Good Morning #Canada
It's my birthday today, 68 years young, so I'm up early wondering how many of my fellow Canadians are of similar age. There's still quite a few, according to #StatsCan, with 2.4 million of us in the 65 to 69 year range. Not crazy about the trend of more of us disappearing as those age bands get older, but thankfully, I'll likely be gone before my retirement funds run out. I'm a #GlassHalfFull type.

  17. We don’t get to see any aurora here, but at least the coronal mass ejection didn’t destroy the power grid, satellites, and other electronics to plunge society into a post-apocalyptic hellscape 🤷‍♀️

  19. I'm going with a attitude today for accomplishments.

Managed to make it through ~1/2 dozen or so Open Collective docs & my 3 yr old notes on financing & fees & junk without poking out my eyes.

Came up with a reasonable clear summary doc.🎉

Probably the only thing I would prefer to be doing less than this would be parsing/reviewing the nuances of software licensing.

  20. The spam wave was annoying but think of all the spam musabi we can make now!
