Anyone have any good suggestions for a #hiking app for iPhone?
I don't need anything heavy duty. I just want something for local trails.
I had downloaded #GaiaGPS a few years ago. It was OK at the time. I went in there tonight, and it's a monstrosity! It turned into some sort of Instagram horror, with a feed and influencers, and ads, etc.
I just want an app of local trails and maps that shows where I am on that trail via GPS.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: if you enter decimal degrees coordinates into Gaia GPS and you enter "too many" decimal digits for its liking, it will mark a spot that is *not* the spot that you intended. #GaiaGPS

I like to go out and wander in the desert and mountains. I have an offline GPS app for my phone that I use to figure out how to get back when I don't know where I am. The app got bought out but I didn't know it. I was in the middle of nowhere and fired it up only to be greeted with "please create an account". Luckily, I was able to find my way home but I figured I'd better get real hardware. It wasn't cheap (even used) but it's better than dying. #gps #garmin #enshitification #GaiaGPS

Do you use AllTrails, GAIA GPS or onXmaps?
Surprise! Bet you did not know you are *indemnifying* those companies.Worst case translation: The company is sued and you must reimburse the company for the attorney fees they spend defending themselves. That is my understanding of the gist of “indemnification”.

Since when did driving obnoxiously oversized off road #vehicles in remote and environmentally sensitive places get called “overlanding”? No surprise that car companies irresponsibly market vehicles in this way, but it really bothers me that outlets like #OutsideMagazine and apps like #GaiaGPS promote this activity. Decided I needed to get out in the woods for some good brain time. So used Gaia GPS to find some local trails, and headed out of the woods. This was a good idea.
