I had to distance myself from pet bird clinical practice dt sadness, feeling powerless to ease the suffering of individuals dt finances & owner challenges, or my own limitations. So I write fiction based on birds to seek some solace. I make characters, give them life, freedom, control of their destinies, and I grow to love them. Description: Cody, a coyote in his late 20s, has been abandoned at a truck stop in the far north of the continent he lives on, with no one he knows who can come help him, and a threat of being kicked out since all bunks are taken, rather than letting him sleep in a waiting area. An unusual traveler -- a timberwolf trucker made entirely of rubber and air, named Brandon -- offers him a way out: ride with him to keep him company on the long, lonely routes, and he can stay for free. Cody's existing fascination with rubbery things, plus the mire of the situation, disarms him of most inhibitions he'd have towards accepting an offer to travel, and so he joins Brandon (@Glitchyeen) on the treks across the continent, finding more than just friendship, but maybe a start to recovering from the trauma of what brought him there to begin with.

I’m having a writing conundrum in that I created a story where a character gets hit by lightning and gains the ability to see and manipulate electromagnetism,

and they specifically DONT get the ability to dramatically shoot people with lightning bolts.

I number them and name them. The number seems necessary somehow, and I don't know why. Like without the number, you wouldn't know the order they go in, I suppose.

The names are either related to content in the chapter, or related to song titles and album names that I like. Why do I pick from song titles? I just do.It's a personal trope.

#PennedPossibilities 131 - does your MC or SC have any scars?

"Lightning” - Trevor has a white-out left eye which he covers with an eye patch, and a white streak color scar in his fur from his forehead intermittently down the left side of his body. He is a 'grayscale' melanistic anthro maned wolf, so it's not as shocking as it would be on a regular red maned wolf, but it's more shocking than most people's scars because it's where he was hit by lightning.

I guess back when I did the first of my kindle ebooks, I decided that I needed to write that kind of stuff and sell it or my writing wasn't meaningful. Just writing things and sharing it was meaningless.

I ended up barely writing anything for several years, because I HAD to write salable things.

That was a mistake because it wasted myself and my time and stopped me from doing the thing I really wanted to do - write stuff.

A mix of exposition describing them, and also trying to uhhgghh 'show don't tell' them.

I write about anthropomorphic animals (or zoomorphic humans), and I think a lot of the time I also use some classic animal body language bits (canines and feline tail and ear behaviors, etc).

Of course the MC (Trevor) ought to be, right? However, I really think it is Fitch the black panther jaguar. Fitch is somewhat mysterious, and every time we learn more about him, there is still some black hole where he does things that no one knows about or he doesn't talk about. Is he actually some sort of dark, bad person? Does he actually have loving good parts inside? Is he on the side of Trevor (MC) or Parlin (antagonist)?
