  5. The Time Travel Movie That Doesn’t Go Anywhere

Before you watch this analysis of Chris Marker’s fantastic La Jetée, you should watch the film itself

La Jetée, 28 minutes long, is famous for being made almost entirely of 422l B/W photographs (a photo-novel) with no traditional moving scenes, creating a unique, static yet profound journey through time and memory, and heavily influencing films like #12Monkeys. It is considered to be a “speculative fiction masterpiece”

  6. Ils sont vivants - French movie from 2021 showing on TV5 monde.
shows the #smallBoats thing from the other side while remembering that this is about human beings. Clearly French film makers are not afraid of telling stories of people risking their livelihoods to help #refugees . This one is based on a real story, following the learning curve of a widow who accidentally gets in contact with the refugees "jungle" of #Calais.

  7. Just back from seeing 'Diva' for the first time since I saw it in 1981. I'd forgotten some of the twistier sections of the plot, but not how stylish a film it is. It's definitely still my favourite film of French cinema. Wilheminia Wiggins Fernandez's voice sends shivers up my spine every time. She died February 2024 at the age of 75, but lives eternal for her performance of this aria from #LaWally #Diva #FrenchCinema #WilhelminiaWigginsFernandez

  8. Corinne Marchand in "Cléo from 5 to 7" (Agnès Varda, 1962)

It was decades since I'd seen this, and I remembered very little about it. Delighted I went back

  10. #TheMarchingBand - one of the very few French (or indeed continental European) movies to get a release in UK cinemas these days: theguardian.com/film/2025/may/ I actually saw this one in Germany on its release there and quite liked the reflections on different musical cultures. and added it to my #filmsNotShown list and wrote a review: proseandpassion.blogspot.com/2 #FrenchCinema

  11. #sad to see #CedricKlapisch has gone over to the dark side - his latest #AubergeEspagnole sequel is a a mini-series on amazon prime: imdb.com/title/tt27165867/ - I rewatched the #CasseTeteChinois y'day and realised we're due a 30 years after film, so this is disappointing. #FrenchCinema

  12. Ma Mère, Dieu, et Sylvie Vartan is a funny, touching, and deeply moving French drama about a mother’s love and a son’s journey to find himself. Leïla Bekhti and Jonathan Cohen are phenomenal.
Full thoughts in my review! 💔
