Groot Omroepkoor a cappella

Het Groot Omroepkoor is meestal te horen in combinatie met een van de radio-orkesten. Sinds de ontbinding van de Radio Kamer Filharmonie afgelopen augustus resteert overigens nog maar één radio-orkest, het Radio Filharmonisch. Het Groot Omroepkoor brengt over het algemeen het groot bezette klassieke en romantische repertoire, maar is vanavond te horen in een geheel onbegeleid programma in de Jacobikerk in Utrecht. Het concert vormt onderdeel van de concertserie De Vrijdag van Vredenburg van de TROS en de AVRO, die wordt geprogrammeerd door Astrid in ‘t Veld.

Vanavond staat het concert in het teken van het vijftigste sterfjaar van Francis Poulenc, en het Groot Omroepkoor zingt drie van zijn koorwerken, waaronder Quatre motets pour le temps de Noël. Deze worden gecompleteerd door de prachtige Mis voor dubbelkoor van Frank Martin. Het concert wordt geopend met Qui Habitat, een zesstemmige canon van Josquin des Prez, die leefde van ca 1440 tot 1521. Tussen de vocale stukken door bespeelt Leo van Doeselaar het imposante orgel van de Jacobikerk in werken van Louis Couperin en Johann Sebastian Bach.

Gisteren al repeteerde het koor in de Jacobikerk, waar de akoestiek wezenlijk anders is dan in Vredenburg Leidsche Rijn. De repetitie werd bijgewoond door leden van de eerder dit jaar opgerichte vereniging Vrienden van het Groot Omroepkoor. Ik was erbij en sprak met koorleden en vrienden en met chef-dirigent Gijs Leenaars, die het noodzakelijk vindt dat zijn koor ook onbegeleide concerten kan verzorgen. Dit bevordert niet alleen de kwaliteit maar ook het saamhorigheidsgevoel. De gesprekken worden vanavond live uitgezonden in het Avondconcert van de TROS op Radio 4, maar zijn ook hier al te beluisteren.
