  1. RSS feed is simple and awesome idea. I run a rss server and sync feeds locally using #fluentreader app and today I learned there is lite version for Android
Named #FluentReaderLite but it is not available in #fdroid we have to download manually so I used #obtainium to install it

    github.com/yang991178/fluent-r

Another good option is #readyou android app which is available in fdroid

  4. Pre-release builds ready to test!

    Hi everyone, PLEASE boost this!
    :neofox:

I wanted to mention again that we have created a community fork of Fluent Reader, a cross-platform RSS reader whose development is currently a bit stalled. Our fork is called Fluentflame Reader.

We don't have a stable release yet, but we already have testing versions for those who want to try it out and give us feedback or report bugs.

We have an updated code base; in fact, that was one of the reasons the project started: to fix bugs and transition from deprecated dependencies to more stable ones. Contribution guidelines? Yes! Code of conduct? Of course! Position on AI code? Banned!

  5. TIL about the #Linux and #Android app #FluentReader which looks like a smoother alternative to #NextCloud News in the browser.

Here's how to set it up with your NextCloud server: sudoscience.blog/2023/07/06/se

It's yet another #Electron application (read: resource hogger 🙄), but I'll give it a chance anyway.

  6. It may have been a while since I last opened my RSS feed aggregator 👀

Narrator: "He proceeded to blow the dust off its cover and smack it a couple of times to remove the remaining particulates... It was a terrible strategy, much coughing ensued."

I probably shouldn't let it collect more cobwebs 🕸️

  7. @oligneisti I'm a huge rss fan - it is my main channel of gathering information & analysis. The first application I launch on booting my laptop in the morning is #FluentReader. github.com/yang991178/fluent-r

I have many hundreds of subscriptions. Like Mastodon it requires the user to be the algorithm, sorting their chonological feeds into meaningful, manipulatable categories. Also, it often just bypasses many paywalls or x-number of 'free articles this month'.

  10. Are you frustrated with trying to source news about your interests from busy social media bias, or all the clutter and distractions of actual news websites? Don't have time to visit 20 different websites to find your news? Or maybe your news for a site is only published every week or two, and you don't want to miss it? This is where a good RSS reader can help you!

Unlike most commercial online RSS reader services which have limitations, or self-hosted services which are a bit more complicated to install and set-up, a desktop RSS reader is quick and easy to get going with.

I explain in this video why you may want to use an RSS reader, and also demonstrate how easy it is to use Fluent Reader, and what it does. It is cross-platform for Windows, Linux, and macOS and can sync reading progress across devices and even with mobile apps.

  12. Cross-Platform Open-Source Fluent Reader is my current best choice for an offline RSS news aggregator

Screenshot of Fluent Redaer RSS reader application showing RSS feeds I’ve happily been using self-hosted web-based FreshRSS for a while now. I chose it mainly because it suited my needs, and when I travelled regularly, I could work from the same shared source of articles. […]

  13. @eloquence I use #FluentReader ( github.com/yang991178/fluent-r )

It's a desktop app available in Linux (AppImage), macOS, and Windows.

What I like most about it is the UI/UX.
