Testing #fcitx to write in Simplified Chinese
Thanks to Duolingo I can write "I'm Argentine": 我是阿根廷人 , "China": 中国 , "Coffee": 咖啡 . And a couple of other words.
The writing method I selected (Pinyin) works by writing the pronunciation, and it gives me a selection of character candidates.

Has anyone gotten fcitx5 running on Void linux? I have installed configtool, libpinyin, chinese-addons, gtk, exported the variables but still can't seem to get it working. Running
fcitx5-remotethrows a "Failed to create dbus connection" andsudo sv status dbusshows dbus running just fine. -
Installed #fedora #kinoite on hardware for the first time and it has way fewer wrinkles than last time. But i am installing basically everything with rpm-ostree. The idea that you can "just use" a flatpak for most GUI apps seems at odds with the main reason I use a computer, i.e. to automate tedious tasks and do work that isn't possible on my smartphone. My dealbreaker apps are basically the #nextcloud client, #syncthing, and #fcitx5 for korean IME, and I can't see a flatpak working well here.

The new #Anki 23.10 release will come with built-in image-occlusion support (for which until now addons were needed). I'm trying the Beta and decided to use it to learn the #Korean #keyboard layout. Until now I used a phonetical Hangul layout (via #fcitx5 for Linux), where you type in romaja and it gets converted to hangul, but that is awkward at times, so now I want to learn the proper #Dubolsik layout. I don't believe in stickers, instead in using #Monkeytype #touchtyping exercises. But until it's in the automatic "muscle memory", having it in the conscious memory might is a useful stepping stone and this is where image-occlusion can help. Monkeytype can display a keyboard layout image for guidance (supports split ortho layouts), which I screenshotted as a base for my image-occlusion cards.
The jury is out whether this will actually help compared to just hanging a printout under the screen and doing exercises.

Yesterday I wrote that my computers at work are #Linux
Thereby I use #KDE - because it is completely customizable according to my needs. Of course mail is the main tool and the new #Thunderbird 115.2.3 is used.
I use 4 columns in Thunderbird. On the left are all mail folders with subfolders, next to it is the list of mails. The email content in the 3rd column and on the far right are the appointments as a list.
Writing in #japanese #english and #german is no problem thanks to #Fcitx5
