  1. Working as a SimCell Injector for a statewide exercise today and throughout the week. We're stress testing the State's systems to respond to a 9.0 Cascadia subduction event.

We will get some great data and opportunities for improvement from this effort.

  2. How much of an impact could this type of framing make?

I've worked on #hazardmitigation plans for years, and my team has advised communities to consider things like critical infrastructure and essential services.

Might the addition of the word "resilience" catch the attention of new, valuable stakeholders?

  3. I know this made the rounds a few days ago, but it's worth sharing again.

Among several stand-out sentences is the following:

"The survey results also emphasize the diversity of recovery needs, from short-term assistance with displacement-related costs to longer-term recovery programs and protections against scam artists and illicit recovery schemes."

  4. "'As humans, we need stories to make sense of change, to find our place in the script of it...'"

What a great quote to kick off the weekend.

  5. I think of #emergencymanagement as a subset of a wider #crisismanagement field; thus, I read lots of articles about crises, regardless of discipline, & there's often something relevant to #emergencymanagers

From the author: "Keeping employees in the dark will only feed uncertainty and damage performance."

Replace "employees" with "those impacted," and there's today's lesson.

  6. When natural disasters fueled by a changing climate grab the headlines, #FEMA gets most of the scrutiny on the government response. But feds generally swoop in 2 aid recovery after storm has passed. Local #emergencymanagers are first 1st on the ground. They know the roads, access points community dynamics. Rapidly #warming #planet makes #fires, #storms more frequent, intense, localities R facing unprecedented conditions and they are not prepared. #ClimateCrisis politico.com/newsletters/power

  7. This article touches (understandably & necessarily) on #climate risks and #climateaction, but what really strikes me about it are the tangible ways the author reminds us that #emergencymanagers and #disaster scientists have a big role, but not the only role to play.

Colleagues working on inequality/poverty hold a key. Those looking at land use & development hold a key. Ditto those working on inclusion in public decision-making.
