#gardening report: good news, bad news. I harvested a beautiful basket of tomatoes, and also carrots, collards, kale, green beans, onions, calendula, sunflowers, ageratum, zinnias, and a few potatoes. HOWEVER, the enemy that's been eating tomatoes, carrot tops, zucchini tops, arugula, and peppers has shown itself to be a groundhog. From Sunday, a Gnat Ogre. These are relatively small robber flies, which are found all over Central Park in late July. Personally, I find them to be very photogenic. There will be more of these little guys.

An orb weaver spider of some sort. These have been spinning webs on the tops of leaves and I often find them eating an unfortunate fly.
