Here's the last #gardening report from the zone 6b allotment for 2025: single digit lows coming tonight and for the next several days. So, time to give the garlics a blanket of chopped leaves. Then, last harvest of lettuce, arugula and a surprise of 2 leeks. Spinaches and arugulas looking good under the row covers so hoping to see them late Feb or early March. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeeds

#gardening report: Look at the calendula at the allotment. Can't remember the last time I was there. Today I turned in 4 bags of compost, planted garlics, and harvested leeks, lettuces, spinaches, arugula, kale, and collards. The good news is that the groundhog has not returned. Maybe the pitchfork in the burrow entrance was a deterrent. Here is today's tomato harvest, plus we also got peppers, collards, kale, broccoli, beans, leeks, sunflowers, calendula, ageratum, and zinnias. #gardening report: harvested nearly the last of the lettuces, and also some carrots and a couple of sun gold tomatoes. Sowed more carrots and more beans. Cut Big Smile sunflowers and agaretum flowers.

Couple of people have asked about growing potatoes in general and in pots. I'm not an expert, so I always point out that many suppliers have reference articles on potatoes.

#gardening report: 7 flats of plants move out for the warm days, in because still too cool at night. Transplanted 22 new perennials and 5 still to go. Sowed dill, basil, borage, cilantro, forget-me-not, and nasturtium into the raised beds. Parsley in the high bed doing very well. Hopefully finishing the transplanting, then cycling to the allotment to check on everything there tomorrow. Potatoes still chitting. #gardening report: potatoes arrived, so we'll be chitting for a while. Transplanted indoors: the gomphrena and the amaranth. Wishing it was warm enough outside for them.....the growlight shelves are filling up.

An aside on potatoes: I used to think there wasn't room at the allotment for potatoes, but I've found that I can grow potatoes in cloth bags placed in between planted rows. Works just fine and doesn't take up row space.

@napalousa My peppers took a really long time to sprout on the heat mat, but they finally did it. Today, I am transplanting 56 tomato seedlings. Seeds in more or less the sowing order, left to right from 6-8 weeks indirect til post frost direct sowing. We're currently at 12 weeks til last frost, but I usually jump the season with many plants by 2 weeks....with row covers, soil temp more important than some late frost issue. #gardening #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeeds

#gardening report: It is colder at the allotment than at my house. Frost on everything, ground beginning to freeze, making it difficult to pull stakes and get under row covers. Still got nice harvest of kale, lettuce, arugula, spinach. Hauled another 8 gal of water over and watered the recently planted garlics. #gyo #GrowFoodFromSeeds #FallGardening

#gardening report: it's been so very dry here. Water at the allotment has been off for 2 weeks. I hauled 8 gal of water over today, and that helped, but barely made a dent. Got this nice harvest of leeks, broccoli, arugula, parsley, and kale. Still in the ground are some carrots and leeks. Doing well under unnecessary row covers are arugulas, spinaches, red and green lettuces. More broccoli and collards and kale to harvest. Doubtful the brussels sprouts will produce - probably started too late. Oh, soil temp is a balmy 55° F, so not planting garlics yet. #good #GrowFoodFromSeeds #FallGardening.
