@FrankBlack78 @BlakesSanctum I'm afraid currently nowhere :(. Both #Civ1 and #Civ2 are apparently in some copyright limbo, it seems to not be clear who holds the copyright or wether it can be bought from anyone. Just that neither 2K nor Firaxis hold it. That's why they're not on GOG, Steam or anywhere else :/.
So the only option is really used copies from ebay, if you can find any.Sorry :/

Time flies, when you're playing civ, and the same applies when you are browsing the forums! Today is one of the days which can be considered the birthday of Civfanatics, and we turn 25, which is in the age of the internet nearly biblical. For this occasion we have written a retrospective, which hopefully includes the most interesting things about the forums. This starts from our timeline, the stats, our best content, the notable projects the community has created, from mods to podcasts, the weirdest things the mods have never told anyone, and other things you might not know. Have a read here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/25-years-of-civfanatics-a-retrospective.700385/

@GamesMissed yeah, the Sid Meier Megabundle has only from #Civ3 upwards.
There was a DVD set a long time ago which had all of them, but afterwards there were some copyright issues, and the state of #Civ1 and #Civ2 is in a limbo :/ -
#GOG has today revelaed its #Dreamlist https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/?sort=global_wishlist_votes_count&order=desc&page=1 , an official list where you can vote which games they should try to acquire and preserve! Our moderator blake00 has already a long time ago started a campaign to bring #Civ1 and #Civ2 back, and now there is a realistic chance via the Dreamlist!
The fight for the top spot is fierce! On first place we currently have "Black & White" with nearly 60.000 votes. Civ1 and Civ2 are somewhere on page 6 and 7, with 15.000 and nearly 14.000 votes respectively.
Vote here for Civ1 https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/game/sid-meier-s-civilization , and here for Civ2 https://www.gog.com/dreamlist/game/sid-meier-s-civilization-ii !
Also come and discuss the voting for Civ1 here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/vote-for-sid-meiers-civilization-i-and-ii-mge-test-of-time-to-be-added-to-gog.675300/ and for Civ2 here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/vote-for-sid-meiers-civilization-i-and-ii-mge-test-of-time-to-be-added-to-gog.675301/ -

The Norwegian website Spillhistorie.no, a retrogaming website, has interviewed Michael Haire, the former artistic director of Microprose, who worked on #Civ1, #Civ2 and #AlphaCentauri, among other titles. In this interview he describes how Microprose started up, that an art department for Civ1 was a big leap in these old computer game days, and that MicroProse being bought by a competitor lead to the formation of Firaxis. You can read the interview here https://spillhistorie.no/qas-with-michael-haire-former-art-director-at-microprose/ , and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/q-a-with-michael-haire-former-artistic-director-at-microprose.694155/ .

The Baltimore Banner has just before Christmas ran a title called "How Baltimore County became a hidden world of video game companies".
As many of you know, Baltimore is the home to our most important gaming studio, Firaxis, but not only that. Its predecessor, Microprose, was also situated in Baltimore, and more recently also many things have happened there. Firaxis personnel has spawnd other studios like "Big Huge Games", which were responsible for "Rise of Nations", and very recently Oxide Games, which has developed "Ara: History Untold". And we don't know yet what games will come from 2 other studious founded by Firaxis employees, Bit Reactor and Midsummer Studios.
If you want to read a bit more, then check out the article here https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/article/baltimore-county-video-game-developers-A7WWMHUXM5D2VDQG7ZOSCUVFQQ/ , and discuss it with us here https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/the-baltimore-banner-how-baltimore-county-became-a-hidden-world-of-video-game-companies.693772/ -

The Civ Twitter account has published a video about #Civ1, when the first important features were created. This is supposedly the first video out of a series, where also the other titles will be featured, so we will also see #Civ2 - #Civ6.
If you want to discuss the video(s) with us, then join us here:

Our member Rahorvat has been working on a reconstruction of #Civ1. While a number of other fan projects have attempted to remake Civ1 they did not involve full disassembly of the original game code to ensure an accurate reconstruction of the game. The project is open source on Github and Rahorvat is looking for programmers to help him! We've tested his latest WIP build and can see it is already very functional and able to load & play original Civ1 savegames!

A part of the current Steam strategy fest is the indie game “Theocracy”. Theocracy is an old-school #turnbased #4X game, inspired by #Civ1 and #civ2 but with a focus on religion and mysticism. So besides expanding your empire, you also need to spread your religion and convert pagans.
The game is currently on sale for 4.89€ instead of 6.99 until September 4, and the dev is a fellow civ-fanatic too!

- #AlphaCentauri
- #Civ3
- #Civ4
- #Civ5
- #BeyondEarth
- #Civ6
- #Civ7Because this is the best list, obviously.

The video game history foundation has posted a new and interesting article. The article describes that 87% of historic video games (range 1960-2009) are currently not available at all, not on GoG, Steam, or elsewhere.
This is very relevant for the Civ community. #Civ1 and #Civ2 are still not legally downloadable anywhere, so they are endangered.
Let's hope that these classics will be preserved for the future.Article link: https://gamehistory.org/87percent/

@melsaywhat Welcome! 👋🏼You got me at #Civ6. I've been playing the game since #Civ1. I actually buy laptops, based on their ability to run the game. 😅
