  1. Someone just asked for #Cawbird to be translated into Latin.

It has been dead for a year after Musk killed the Twitter API, and then the Twitter-and-Mastodon rewrite got canned. But someone only just asked for a translation.

    I don't understand some people!

  3. CW: Twitter API

@schmittlauch @ibboard The Arch Linux API key of #Cawbird is also dead now. 🪦

  5. CW: Twitter API

Finally, #Cawbird (nixpkgs edition) is dead as well. Until recently, it was still successfully interacting with the Twitter API, while already being abandoned by its upstream devs @ibboard.

Now I get error messages like
    cawbird-WARNING **: 00:02:27.739: ../src/CbUtils.c(call_done_cb): 0x4710760, 1.1/statuses/home_timeline.json Forbidden

Either the whole old API is gone for good, or the nixpks API key has been discovered and revoked.

  7. Twitter-Limit-Hack: Ironischerweise Drittanbieterclients ??!
#Cawbird mit den Arch-Linux-API-Keys (nur die sind noch nicht zurückgezogen) hat noch Twitter-Zugriff und damit kann ich trotz Überschreiten des 600er-Limits munter Twitter browsen, inklusive Antworten.

  9. Development of #Cawbird #NewCaw is suspended indefinitely.

@CodedOre was leading the rewrite, but is too busy with university commitments - mastodon.online/@CodedOre/1103
@ibboard was considering stepping down but hadn't announced anything.

Musk has killed Twitter as a platform, so NewCaw's original focus on multi-platform support is dead. There are other Mastodon clients available. The dev team don't have the time/interest to build another.

  11. If you're a #MobileLinux Twitter addict, and #Cawbird no longer works for you, you can give good old touchscreen-unaware #Choqok (choqok.kde.org/) a try: As of today, it still works!

Some third party still with . still works for example. What on earth is going on therer?

I only just noticed as I was tidying up old twitter accounts. I might leave that one for now just out of .

  17. Thread about the future of , 's best twitter app:

    RT @CawbirdClient
It's official. We're living on borrowed time.

Twitter has updated its Developer Agreement to ban "creating a substitute to the Twitter Applications" (§ II.A.c)

In preparation for when we're eventually unplugged: So long, and thanks for all the tweets!

  18. "You're not going to put effort into your #FOSS #Twitter client because Musk is turning it into a stinking cesspit? Well, you'll lose users like me!" is certainly *a* view to take.

    Big shrug from me, tbh.

  19. What's that? I've got initial functionality to like and boost toots in #Cawbird 2.0 #NewCaw?

(Posted from the web, to be boosted by @cawbird through the app!)

  20. Don't mind me. Just running development builds of #Cawbird 2.0 (#NewCaw) in read-only mode on Twitter and Mastodon.

  21. The upside of smaller, more specific Mastodon instances is that you can find a community where "local" & "federated" feeds may include interesting stuff. And it'll be emerging human curation, not an algorithm.

The down side is that you only see what people on the server subscribe to.

So I can only see #Cawbird mentions on hachyderm.io and from people on other instances who are followed by people on hachyderm.io. Or on/followed by mastodon.social people, because @cawbird is still there.

  23. We just checked. #Fedora 37 is now available on @obshq. We've enabled #Cawbird builds and they're building! #WatchThisSpace

  25. @killyourfm I'm waiting for the new #Cawbird that might bring mastodon support.
    github.com/CodedOre/NewCaw

Currently I just use a browser. That works best for me.

  30. Cawbird 1.3 Released with Improved DM Support, Video Uploading

It feels apt that Cawbird, an app I use regularly, is the subject of the first post I write at the start of a new year. Cawbird is one of the best Ubuntu apps. Regardless :sys_more_orange:

  31. Just some screenshots of the Cawbird Twitter client running on the Pinephone. For you twitter users out there :D

Note: It could be better mobile optimized but its working and it doesn't appear to be that smooth when scrolling yet but thats just from looking at it quickly and not actual usage expirience. If you tried it and have something to add feel free to do so!
