#newcaw — Public Fediverse posts

Thanks to everyone who supported us through the years - either as users, bug reporters, testers, packagers or occasional contributors.

We're sorry that #NewCaw did not come in to being. But for those using Mastodon and the Fediverse, we're sure there's other great clients out there that could use your support.

Development of #Cawbird #NewCaw is suspended indefinitely.

@ibboard was considering stepping down but hadn't announced anything.

Musk has killed Twitter as a platform, so NewCaw's original focus on multi-platform support is dead. There are other Mastodon clients available. The dev team don't have the time/interest to build another.

Cawbird's #NewCaw is very much still alpha software. Some stuff won't work. Things may break.

But the source code is available at https://github.com/CodedOre/NewCaw/ and @ibboard occasionally builds packages from `main` plus some extras for openSUSE Tumbleweed at https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:IBBoard:desktop/cawbird

If the "Third Part App ban" hadn't killed us off, this definitely would have!

It's a shame to see Twitter go down like this. Slowly drilling holes in their own boat.

Hopefully we can get #NewCaw completed before Twitter tanks completely!

@thomholwerda @cawbird Well, @CodedOre has been working on it for a while now. Because #NewCaw was our planned rewrite in pure Vala to support Mastodon as well as Twitter.

I've just been fixing up a few bits and packaging it 🙂

What's that? A development build of @cawbird #NewCaw packaged on #OpenBuildService? 👀

Don't mind me. Just running development builds of #Cawbird 2.0 (#NewCaw) in read-only mode on Twitter and Mastodon.

Given recent changes at Twitter and the on-going actions of @elonmusk, the development of #NewCaw with #Mastodon support is more important than ever.

If anyone can help @CodedOre and @ibboard build the new app then it would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, we went through the arbitrary "it's still v1" API changes, the end of streaming, _and_ the introduction of the global request caps.

There was a scare about paid dev accounts before, but we survived.

Let's see what happens next.

But #NewCaw will support Mastodon as well!
