  1. Starting next year, #Brussels will have an additional car free day, on Sunday May 2nd in addition to the one around the 20th of September: brusselstimes.com/2243535/brus brussels.be/car-free-sunday

It’s still not enough, but it’s twice as what we have, so yay for this small victory! :ouaisouais:

(It took ages for the regional government to decide this, because… you know… Belgium…)

  6. #Belgium just allowed “supervised” autonomous vehicles to drive on the territory. 😐

The driver has to stay behind the wheels but can do whatever they want. They’ll be held responsible in case of the car responsibility in an accident.

Apparently it’s a #Tesla only technology. I have no clue if other manufacturers are also concerned.

  11. This is sadly an all too accurate depiction of the very real problem of excessive #CarBloat. Definitely one to add to the “Why #CarsSuck” image library! mastodon.com.br/@xkcd/11553844

  13. Why were Black people so angry in the Sixties? Among other things, wrote Dr. King:

"It is disappointment with some Negro clergymen who are more concerned about the size of the wheel base on their automobiles than about the quality of their service to the Negro community."

  17. One advantage of not spending a lot of time in a car (or RV) is not needing things like this. Do you think Clarence Thomas has one?

  22. CW: Rare timely photo, potentially mind-blowing

In a rare, serendipitous, moment captured on film (or whatever these pocket computers use now), a pick-up truck of the suburban species, the one never seen in the woods, is behaving like a truly wild pick-up truck of the rural species. Since this species split with the rural variety, encroaching on densely populated areas and consuming vast natural resources while seldom venturing off the smooth and safe streets of suburbia, this behavior is rarely witnessed. Automobilologists had long considered this behavior extinct in this species, and that loss of their never-used rear bed due to evolution would gradually occur. This photo casts doubt on that hypothesis. It remains to be seen whether the behavior will start expressing itself on a community wide scale, but one expert is quoted saying “There are only so many couches to drive around these days."

  27. Sounds good to have a road that can charge EVs, right? Well, this one is kind of stupid, and here is why. First, Florida is beautiful, and this section of Florida doesn't need roads slicing and dicing valuable wildlife corridors. Second, there are train tracks that can charge cars, too. Train cars! As we "innovate" roads, they become more and more like trains everyday, making question whether they are in fact "innovations" at all. And, as always, this is my reminder that EVs will save the automotive industry but they will not save us.
