  1. Starting next year, #Brussels will have an additional car free day, on Sunday May 2nd in addition to the one around the 20th of September: brusselstimes.com/2243535/brus brussels.be/car-free-sunday

It’s still not enough, but it’s twice as what we have, so yay for this small victory! :ouaisouais:

(It took ages for the regional government to decide this, because… you know… Belgium…)

  3. #Belgium just allowed “supervised” autonomous vehicles to drive on the territory. 😐

The driver has to stay behind the wheels but can do whatever they want. They’ll be held responsible in case of the car responsibility in an accident.

Apparently it’s a #Tesla only technology. I have no clue if other manufacturers are also concerned.

  5. Why were Black people so angry in the Sixties? Among other things, wrote Dr. King:

"It is disappointment with some Negro clergymen who are more concerned about the size of the wheel base on their automobiles than about the quality of their service to the Negro community."

  6. One advantage of not spending a lot of time in a car (or RV) is not needing things like this. Do you think Clarence Thomas has one?

  8. CW: Rare timely photo, potentially mind-blowing

In a rare, serendipitous, moment captured on film (or whatever these pocket computers use now), a pick-up truck of the suburban species, the one never seen in the woods, is behaving like a truly wild pick-up truck of the rural species. Since this species split with the rural variety, encroaching on densely populated areas and consuming vast natural resources while seldom venturing off the smooth and safe streets of suburbia, this behavior is rarely witnessed. Automobilologists had long considered this behavior extinct in this species, and that loss of their never-used rear bed due to evolution would gradually occur. This photo casts doubt on that hypothesis. It remains to be seen whether the behavior will start expressing itself on a community wide scale, but one expert is quoted saying “There are only so many couches to drive around these days."

  10. Sounds good to have a road that can charge EVs, right? Well, this one is kind of stupid, and here is why. First, Florida is beautiful, and this section of Florida doesn't need roads slicing and dicing valuable wildlife corridors. Second, there are train tracks that can charge cars, too. Train cars! As we "innovate" roads, they become more and more like trains everyday, making question whether they are in fact "innovations" at all. And, as always, this is my reminder that EVs will save the automotive industry but they will not save us.

  12. @enobacon An old friend would always say #CarsSuck when I would complain about drivers. Because while drivers make those decisions that threaten or inconvenience cyclists, cars put them in the state of mind to do that. I’m sorry so many drivers do so many frustrating things. I’m with you - we need to move away from car culture and get them out of the box that turns them into jerks

  14. CW: death of a turtle due to a selfish driver, call for action

Just talked to my wife who relayed a very upsetting story.

I'm sharing it because #OklahomaCity needs to do more to stop bad drivers and lower our ridiculously high speed limits.

She was driving northbound on Macarthur blvd near Hefner Road. In front of her she saw an old man who had pulled off the road (with flashers on) and was trying to rescue a turtle that was trying to cross the road. She of course stopped.

Behind her was a large red pickup truck (she, unfortunately, did not get a tag # or make and model) came barrelling through. The truck almost hit the old man but did manage to smash the turtle. The old man was upset and yelling but the truck came blazing on.

Obviously, the main issue is that there is a selfish driver out there who thinks his schedule is worth more than both a turtle and an old man's lives, but the other issue is our ridiculously high speed limits. Given the amount of traffic (including cars, pedestrians, and bicycles), 45 mph is far, far too high for Macarthur and other artery streets --- because unfortunately, people like this pickup driver will be pushing 55+, if the speed limit is set at 45.

It is time for the people of #OKC to make our voices heard and call on our city to lower speed limits, especially on busy artery streets like this one. I would recommend emaing the mayor ([email protected]) or your city councilor ([email protected] --- but substitute your ward #).

  15. Driver of this 4x4 felt it was acceptable to park outside cafe, in front of people and leave engine running while they ordered takeaway coffees.

Politely asked them to turn it off next time.

Interesting head space to have ‘save ledge’ beach stickers but think a diesel puking fumes at people for 5 minutes is ok.
