In all my wisdom I accidentally left "auto delete after 2 years" activated and lost all my sweet #bioswale posts. Going to have to repair that damage.

This is a "rain train" - a series of rain gardens at descending elevations, connected by a concrete trough, which is fed from rooftop water.

It's designed to handle up to 135mm of rain per 24 hour period - a one in fifty year event in St Paul, Minnesota where this is located. Pretty innovative!

@webuiltthiscity BTW the water park is more "blue-green" infrastructure. The water drains into the ground - along with storm water. You can see overflow sewers in the lower gardens behind if the water gets too high.

Auckland has had some record-shattering climate-exacerbated flooding recently. One of the terms that keeps popping up is the concept of a 'sponge city' as a mitigation for flooding events.

Pretty much all #greeninfrastructure (such as a #bioswale) act as a 'sponge' in this context. More bioswales everywhere, please!
