Which is why #BoardGame designers should always playtest each iteration at least twice.
.
.
But who has the time or patient enough playtesters, outside of the big game companies? -

- 21 casillas disponibles -> mayoría de 11.
- 24 casillas disponibles -> mayoría de 13. -
- 12 casillas disponibles -> mayoría de 7.
- 16 casillas disponibles -> mayoría de 9. -
- 7 casillas -> mayoría con 4 casillas.
- 11 casillas -> mayoría con 6 casillas.
- 17 casillas -> mayoría con 9 casillas. -

What makes a good idea for a game? -

You know that thing where you need a day to recover from your holiday? Yeah. That.

An afternoon of play testing board games! Awesome! Thanks to Incubator Melbourne.

Tips for entering Game Design contests, by Matt Dunstan.

Today I will be mostly focussing on board game design.

@Kaesekuchen @brettspiele About hashtags: for my own toots i use the combination #boardgame (or #boardgames) and #diy , but i've seen some people using #PrintAndPlay, #BoardGameDesign, #BGdev, #diygame (or #diygames) and #pnpgame (or #pnpgames).
There's also @nerdlings, an account who reposts toots about painting minis or creating dioramas. -

What #boardgames should every designer play, from an understanding of mechanics standpoint, through to understanding theme and storytelling?
-
Back to working on my card game. The basic mechanisms work, but getting the balance right is the hardest part.

Visited the Monastery at San Lorenzo de El Escorial, a short walk from where I'm currently staying. Which means I got to see the Book of Chess, Dice and Board Games by Alfonso X The Wise. A fascinating historical tome of interest to #BoardGames people and #BGDev #GameDev folkes.
-
Next week, I shall mostly be working on my #BoardGame designs.

Working on my rule books and scripts for videos, today. Maybe I'll even get around to sending them off.

Invented a new board game. Now I must play test it. Of course, living in Northern Tasmania, I have no one to playtest it with....
-
Final play test of the year for Sake was a great success. Everyone wants to play this game again. I've managed to make the front end simple, with only four actions controlled by card play. All the complexity happens from the players fighting over territory and delivery options.
-
Getting ready to play test Sake this evening. Looking forward to seeing how the latest iteration works.
-
Getting ready for the next playtest of Sake! A game about making ... well, sake. I printed everything out and did a quick run through to check it was all there and working, then realised I had to make one really obvious change so the game board was easier to read. Back to the printers...

It's raining! So I get to cut out a lot of board game pieces and then playtest the game! Yay.
I mean, I was going to do that anyway, but..
-
I'm spending today cutting out bits of cardboard. I turned fifty three this year.
-
I have soooo much cutting out to do! Each iteration of a board game requires new numbers, sometimes entirely redesigned pieces. Mostly I just scribble over the old numbers and then run the playtest again, but I'm heading to #PAXAus next month. I'll need my games to look a little more presentable. There are four I'm currently iterating, and another three at the pitch stage.

Would you like to be friends? Been updating one of my board game designs with some simplification and refreshing the artwork. This one is Heian Kyo, set it the proposed capital of the Heian period in Japan. It's a game about making friends and retiring in comfort.
-
Excellent playtest at Incubator Melbourne yesterday! It makes such a difference to playtest with actual designers, rather than with members of the public. Getting that strong feedback can really help actually develop the idea. This, of course, often involves a major rework.

Taking all my freshly cut out game pieces along to Incubator today for a playtest today! Actual people will be playing my game!
