The sword cannot do to me what you have done,
Nor is meeting my enemy like meeting you.
Even if an enemy’s arrow stayed lodged in my chest all night,
It would not hurt me as much as your eyes have.#Poetry #ArabicPoetry #LovePoetry #Heartbreak #DeepFeelings #RomanticLines #Emotional #ClassicPoetry #Words #Feelings

One of my favorite Arabic female poets who was known as the Greatest Poet of Her Generation was a slave woman by the name of Inan. She does eventually get freed, but I often think about how we derive enjoyment off of her suffering.
Here is a more detailed analysis (really rambling) about Inan, a medieval poet of the Abbasid Era:

Brother, misery nestled everywhere - through our will.
Do not lament. Others do not hear our woe.
Instead follow me with a pick and spade that we may dig a trench in which to hide our dead.Dear brother, who are we without a neighbour, kin or country?
We sleep and we wake clad in shame. The world breathes our stench, as it did that of the dead.
Bring the spade and follow me - dig another trench for those still alive.- My brother, Mikhail Naimy
