Today we're upgrading our Ameritron ALS-600 that we just got to use the 10/12 meter band. For reasons, Ameritron leaves this out because someone might use it on the 11 meter band but there are soo many easier and cheaper options to do this in 2026. Also, with Ameritron recently being bought, there are none of the official conversion kits available so I found someone else doing them for a bit more money sadly. #amateurradio #amp

One issue that I ran into is that I couldn't get the Boss Tone Studio software to run on Linux under WINE, so I had to use WinBoat (a Windows VM) instead.

Basically I installed WinBoat, passed the USB through to the VM, updated Windows within the VM, then got the latest drivers and software for the Katana, as well as the MSVC runtime, and now it works just fine. (It wasn't recognizing the amp for a while before I updated Windows, for some reason, but worked after updating.)

Kind of a heavy fix, not ideal, but it works...

It would be really nice to eventually have this working in WINE or to have some kind of open source alternative configuration tool.

I bought a Boss Katana. I really like it so far!

Sounds great whether clean, crunchy and driven. Extremely fun to play. Significantly more versatile than any amp I've ever owned. Bright and responsive. Not too big or heavy. And it's loud!!! (Even with the power level set to 0.5W and the master dialed back it's loud enough for any kind of home session.)

I got the GA-FC EX foot controller and Bluetooth module too, and I highly recommend them both, but especially the footswitch.

I've barely scratched the surface of what this can do, especially getting into the editor and community patches. But so far, so good. Probably the most fun I've had with an amp.
