  1. Has this senior official ever heard of ... trees? (You know, the things local authorities across Ireland have for years now been cutting back, chopping down, and destroying along road-sides, all at the behest of farmers and insurers.)

  6. ffs, what is the unhinged framing from Met Éireann and RTÉ News here!?

"Good weather." "Great weather." "Really good weather."

All while the weather warnings are for dangers in bathing areas, heat stress, uncomfortable nights, hose pipe bans, water cuts in Kildare and Dublin. This heatwave is linked to climate change. People have already died in Ireland, and are dying across Europe.

  8. A Met Éireann weather advisory for "very warm or hot" temperatures across Ireland, from overnight Tues/Weds until Thurs? You know that means weather warnings are on the way. Batten down the ice cubes, folks..

    met.ie/warnings-wednesday.html

    eta:
This advisory originally ran until Thursday of this week - now it has been updated to run until *Tuesday week* 😦

  14. Most news media orgs in Ireland are running *live blogs about the weather*, and the government's National Emergency Coordination Group has issued a statement calling on people to work from home where possible..

    - in case anyone outside the country is wondering just how much rain we're getting here.

  18. Shout-out to those businesses around Doyle's Corner in Phibsboro which decided to water their hanging baskets, wash their windows - during some of the coldest days of the past 12 months - and otherwise leave large blobs and streaks of black ice all over the footpaths there.
