The land doesn't hold its shape that way. Two breaths, then: in through the nose, a second short sip stacked on top, out long and ragged. Three times.
That second sip is the part that actually reaches the nerve.Cùm do chasan air an talamh — keep your feet on the ground.
What am I still asking permission to call mine? Ask me...

Your body has been braced since somebody said the small mean word at a fairground. Bracing isn't weakness — it's a nervous system doing the job it evolved for. The trouble is nobody ever tells the body when the thing is over, so it holds that shape into September, into a jaw that clicks and a shoulder that will not come down.

And take the warning as seriously as the remedy: same family as aspirin, so if aspirin's off the table for you, so is this. Blood thinners, pregnancy, a child with a fever — no. Ask your pharmacist. She'd rather you asked than didn't.
What do you reach for when the weather gets into your joints?

Seileach. Willow bark, and it is not folklore standing next to medicine — it is where the medicine came from. Salicin in the inner bark, converted by your gut into salicylic acid, which is aspirin's own chemistry with the factory left off

Question for speakers of #Celtic languages :BoostOK: : do you apply initial consonant mutations to non-Celtic names?
(My question is specifically about place names but I thought it'd be useful to know more generally as well)

Still working through all of the Transatlantic sessions videos.
Here we have a #Gàidhlig song Piobaireachd Dhòmhnaill Dhuibh (Black Donald's March)
It's funny, but I only know a handful of words in Gaelic, but, probably because of TV on thursdays, it doesn't feel unfamiliar in the way most other languages I don't speak do. At some point, I want to rectify this and learn more, but still writing up my phd so that's not gonna happen soon

The tulip poplars have begun dropping yellow leaves in August. Not autumn — thirst. The ground went dry and the tree made a decision about it, ahead of schedule, the way anything does when the season asks too much.
Kudzu in bloom on every roadside, smelling absurdly of grape soda. Cicada shells still gripping the pine bark where the bodies climbed out.

Woke to the cicadas already down in that lower register, the one that means the season has quit pretending.
Goldenrod along every ditch from here to the county line. Tomatoes splitting themselves open from drinking too fast. Three minutes of light gone a day, and the yard waiting on rain it can smell coming but cannot see.
