My reading year is going great so far! Way more variety and I'm already at 24 things read. Less cosy things and more reflective stuff. (Nothing wrong with cozy I really needed that last year) #reading #readinggooal #books #52books

Book #35 of 2023
Don’t know why I slept on #CJCherryh for so long, but glad I finally read #Foreigner. Primarily about a whiny translator having tea w/ people he doesn’t really want to have tea with, who don’t like him, alien horses, & the travails of delayed postal service. Somehow also a gripping political intrigue #ScienceFiction, w/ tortuous intercultural relations, rich #WorldBuilding & gothic vibes.
A fun 4/5 ⭐️ I’d say.

I think I choose badly for my second book in my 52 books in 52 week challenge. I mean I like the topic, but it's so heavy and it's really actual for our time.
Joost A.M. Meerloo: The Rape of the Mind
"In totalitarian countries, where belief in Pavlovian strategy has assumed grotesque proportions, the self-thinking, subjective man has disappeared. There is an utter rejection of any attempt at persuasion or discussion. Individual self-serpression is taboo. Private affection is taboo.
Peaceful exhcange of thoughts in free covnersation will disturb the condifitones reflexes and is therefore taboo. No longer are there any brains, only conditioned patterns and educated muscles. In such a taming system neurotic compulsion is looked upon as a positive asset instead of something pathological. The mental automation becomes the ideal of education."

Next week's book of my 52 books in 52 weeks challenge will be:
Joost A. Meerloo: The Rape of the Mind - The Psychology of Thought Control, Menticide and Brainwashing
---
I think this is very actual now, so try to get some more knowledge about the topic.
The author and his book was mention in this video:

A must watch!

I've finished reading PKD's Solar Lottery. I loved it! I finished one day early, and couldn't really put it down this evening. This novel is from 1955, and it's about a world in 23rd century, when leadership is not elected, but won, by lottery...
"In 2203 anyone can become the ruler of the solar system. There are no elections, no interviews, no prerequisites whatsoever—it all comes down to the random turns of a giant wheel. But when a new Quizmaster takes over, the old one still keeps some rights, namely the right to hire an unending stream of assassins to attempt to kill the new leader.
In the wake of the most recent change in leadership, employees of the former ruler scurry to find an assassin who can get past telepathic guards. But when one employee switches sides, troubling facts about the lottery system come to light, and it just might not be possible for anyone to win."
Highly recommend it to sci-fi fans. It's not about the technology, but ourselves. I can't really imagine what it was like reading this in the middle of the last century.
And I hope it never gets made by present hollywood, because they are doing shitty adaptations...

Today's reading really went well, I have about 60 pages for the weekend. Depend on if my brother visit us it will be easy or hard.

Man, PKD sure knew how to write the first chapter!
Solar Lottery is the first book in my #52books project, in which I will read 52 books in 52 weeks!
I feel that I could read this book in 2-3 days, but I want to make reading a daily habit, and I really don't have to hurry. It's not a long story, and that's why I choose it. Easier to make it a habit, if something is short, and I don't have time pressure. -
So far I have 20 books for next year to read, in my 52 books in 52 weeks project. I will read both in English and my native language.
Soon I will put up a blog post and page about this project, where I will document my progression.
It will officially start on January 3rd, which is the start of the first full week in 2022.

I am looking for book recommendation for my "52 books in 52 weeks" project. Doesn't matter if it's a classic or a modern, or if it's fiction or non-fiction. Size doesn't matter either.
So, what's your favorite book you have read lately? Or is their some underrated story you like to share?

My book reading project plan is going nicely. I already have 5 books that I want to read, and this is just from my room. There are hundreds of books in our home, so it won't be hard to find more.
I won't re-read anything, and bought traditional and ebooks are OK.
I will soon create a page on my blog, where I track how it goes.
Oh and if you are offended by some of the titles, it's your problem, sorry.

Is it possible to read 52 books in a year (52 weeks)? I ask because I want to do this next year, but it requires preparations.
I thought about starting some easy, shorter books for the first 3-4 weeks, just to get into the habit of reading regularly.

Oh, and no audiobooks. That's not reading, but listening, a totally different beast.
