    Johnnybiz?

(Like a Johnnycab, only worse. #PKD would be nodding and going, "Yep, just what I expected.")

  20. i feel like lately in my daily mundane life legit communication is just lost in a sea of #noise/spam. Is it that i'm getting old and no longer have the energy or will to sort through the #datasmog that's always been there or has it really gotten so much worse, in the last, i dunno, 5 years or so? I feel like I can't get simple things accomplished because it's so hard to find the email threads that represent those digital errands.Like simple customer support stuff about orders or bills or events or whatnot, just drowned in a sea of attempts to #scam and trick me. trick us all.

What science fiction author or filmmaker predicted this kind of #end to our #civilization? That we'd just be swamped in our own digital trash and eventually unable to cope. Seems like a #PKD story but I cant recall which or whether he really wrote something like that... I keep thinking of the part in #Ubik where the protagonist is trapped in his apartment because he can't afford to pay the autonomous pay-per-use door out. This is what's happening but even worse, because the problem is not even connected to any physical situation. Machines and systems just idiotically bewildering us all to death.

  21. “(Philip K Dick’s) work hasn’t aged at all. He is probably read even more keenly today, when the loss of so many realities at once makes us yearn for what’s true and real—for some sort of metaphysical order to combat the depression that’s grown ubiquitous.” - #OlgaTokarczuk #PhilipKDick #PKD #books

  22. “I think #PhilipKDick was a great visionary. He was the first writer to create a truly moving vision of a disintegrating world, and of the thin line between what’s real and what’s produced by our brains.” - #OlgaTokarczuk #scifi #sciencefiction #PKD #books #BookSky

  23. Something else on déjà vu I remembered, what PKD theorized about it:

“..we are living in a computer-programmed reality, and the only clue we have to it is when some variable is changed, and some alteration in our reality occurs.” -Philip K Dick

Dick thought that the alterations in our reality feel like déjà vu, a sensation that proves that “a variable has been changed”, and those are the times when “an alternative world branched off.”

And this great (wild) interview with Rizwan Virk made me remember it: youtube.com/watch?v=rG8l4GvjiLs

  24. Galactic Pot Healer, Philip K. Dick, Ian Miller cover artist

I read this book and loved it, my friend got me into PKD's writing, I plan to read all of it eventually. I wouldn't say it's one of his best but I like all of them, each one is its own brilliant weird thing, another one like that is Clans of The Alphane Moon.

I think the art work fits, weird and edgy and maybe has a sort of sickness, the unlovely side of life.

    Tomorrow is Monday!

  25. I have been reading a collection of Philip K Dick stories ('The Variable Man', 'Second Variety', 'The Defenders', 'Piper in the Woods', 'Foster, You're Dead'). I have read a number of his novels before, but haven't gone deep in his novella / short story work.

I've barely started 'Piper' and it occurs to me. Was PKD a Marxist? I knew he was... complicated... When he lost his mind, Marxists were the enemy, but his writing has often felt Pro-Marxist to me.

  27. Finally got around to watching Blade Runner (1982) after reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I definitely expected them to cut the whole Mercerism stuff out, and move away from the absurdist attitude of the book. Pretty good movie all around. I found the "father" edit appropriate, though I do see the point in preserving the original line.

  28. I'm reading some sci-fi written in 1964 that takes place May 19th, 2025. The scenario seems way off though... unless there's a nuclear war in the next 13 days that drives all survivors deep underground.

    Which is not impossible...

  29. "Names had changed, faces had changed, but the adversaries remained a permanent constant. The slave #Empire against those who struggled for justice and truth ... buried under the bulk of an Empire that embraced both the United States and the Soviet Union as twin, equal manifestations ... two portions of the Empire as divided up by the Emperor Diocletian for purely administrative purposes; at heart it was a single entity, with a single value system." - #PKD #PhilipKDick

  30. I redrew this from the cover of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick. It's in 4K, you're welcome.
