  1. RE: digipres.club/@foone/117514673

This blew my mind reading it. Not the bug. I think I'm numb to that now. The timeline. The company had a 2 month lead between releasing the patch and posting the advisory. And an additional 2 weeks before the blog post broke the news.

This company had like 3 months of cover to deploy their patch. Absolutely insane.

As nice as that sounds for the company, anyone could have read the release notes, wrote an exploit, deployed it, and all the users diligently watching they CVE notices and security mailing lists would be none the wiser...

  2. Crazy to think I just merged my first PR in a work repo in almost five years because, thanks to AI prompting, the evolution of coding and validation agents, and personal projects I’m doing on the side, I’m a builder again.

  3. I keep seeing dumb posts talking about gas furnaces vs heat pumps and gas water heater vs HPWH where they’re like “with all the recent electric outages, I’m glad I have gas!”

And I can’t tell if it’s really dumb people who haven’t thought very hard, or O&G shillbots trying to sow FUD about heat pumps.

Like gas furnaces have electric blowers and control circuitry and won’t work during an electricity outage, but a heat pump works during a gas outage. If you’re worried about outages, gas furnaces have two points of failure instead of one.

Microsoft bet on customers paying a premium for touchscreens on laptops years ago. I’m sure that bet will pay off as well as their bets on smartphones and tablets did… for Apple.

  5. Since the big 3.0 multilingual update Luminous users in the Microsoft Store have expanded from 50 countries to 81! I don't have stats on Linux or self-installed versions obviously, but that's ok. I'm happy more people are enjoying it.

  7. Is the JLab Epic Mini keyboard any good? I usually use the cheap $10 membrane keyboards that come with computers; I like them and dislike the extended key travel and noise of mechanicals (I’m a loud enough typer on membrane or scissor-switches). It looks to have normal sized keys and a pretty normal elevation at the front of the unit (I have an Arteck wireless that is damn near flush to the desk and has next to no key travel and it’s the exact opposite of a mechanical, but also feels bad to my hands).

The concept with abbreviations feels too complicated and harder to read, so simply in plain text:

I'm a #nonbinary #genderqueer millennial looking for cis or trans people around my age bracket, in or around the #RheinMainGebiet for sexy times. Could go to sex parties together, or something. I dunno. :3 if you did read this and not simply smashed a reply without brain use and are actually interested, reply with the pea emoji in your text 🙂

Edit: you might like me if you enjoy silly puns, nerdy #mythology or language details that you never thought you would hear after sex, #TTRPG or discussions on building #anarchist community. Or if you want to talk about #rustLang

B.C. election results revive debate over proportional representation

After British Columbia’s snap election delivered the B.C. Conservatives a majority of seats with less than half of the popular vote, electoral reform advocates are once again questioning the fairness of the province’s first-past-the-post voting system.

On Saturday, the B.C. Conservatives secured a majority government with 69 per cent of the seats in the legislature, despite only receiving 48 per cent of the vote.

Meanwhile, the B.C. NDP won 38 per cent of the vote but 29 per cent of seats, while the B.C. Greens received 11 per cent of the vote but secured only two seats.

CentreBC, despite earning 1.6 per cent of the vote, was shut out of the legislature entirely, as was OneBC with 1.5 per cent of the vote.

  14. CW: macro furry content

"Hey uh-Quick question." The wolf chuckled, ignoring his federation colleagues fingers as he softly kneaded him in his palm. "Why do you always do that when carrying me? I'm not a fidget toy."

The ram's face went red and his massaging fingers stopped.

    "...you do know that, right?"

  15. This month I began using mobile apps to build new habits. One thing I’ve always wanted to do is read books frequently.

Now I’m close to make daily reading a new healthy habit in my life. For 3 weeks I already read two books cover to cover.

I just started a third one.

  19. Unfortunately, I need to ask for money again. I don't want to, but after reviewing my finances and upcoming royalty payments, I'm not going to be able to cover bills.

I don't need a lot, just enough to buy medical supplies and pay my phone bill.

Why do I need help? I'm a disabled Type 1 Diabetic Transgender woman with complicated mental illness. I'm not currently employed and I don't have a lot of options where I live that I could actually do with my physical limitations.

What am I doing about it? Early November, I'll be launching a new video project, mostly about video games, which will be free for all and supported by ads and patreon. Hopefully, I can get to a point where I don't need to ask for help anymore.
