  2. I grew up on buses in #Canberra, and though I was away for ~30 years, even with all its changes, I took to #PublicTransport again like a duck to water.

My wife, OTOH, grew up in Sydney and went straight from foot to car as soon as she was old enough. She’s in a wheelchair now, but despite all assurances of #accessibility, getting her onto #buses and #trams is an uphill—and ongoing—struggle. It just wasn’t part of her upbringing, and she hesitates to take it up. aus.social/@jessta/11651395808

  7. So, after about 18 months on the public waiting list my number came up!

Today I finally got my dodgy ankle seen to. (Ruptured a ligament about 18 years ago, and found out via MRI there was bits of bone floating around the joint. Hence the pain and reduction in movement).

Ligament repaired, gnarly bits of growth, damaged cartilage and bone shaved away, and a floating chunk of bone removed (pictured).

Should have done this years ago!

HUUUUGE shout out to ACT Health, and the private hospital in Deakin they put me in for the Op and the overnight observation. The surgeon, nurses, everybody is just so kind. ❤

  12. Heard on ABC #Canberra radio news just now that #SaveBigSplash #JamisonPool to reopen 1 November. Government expects owners to lodge application to demolish water slides. #Belconnen

My view: #ACTGovernment has been chicken on this and also kept the community mainly in the dark. Questions: 1) what’s Big Splash without slides; 2) are we just relying on yet more consequence-free promises to open?

  17. PSA.

There are about five large boxes of delicious bread looking for a home at the ANU Food Coop right now.

If you are nearby, pop in and take a few. And consider buying something else while you are there! (I bought and ate the last slice of bread pudding) :-)

  18. I had my daughter's dog, Laura, as well as Monty Loco with me for this morning's walk. They're not ideally matched as Monty just likes to walk non-stop while Laura likes to stop and sniff every second clump of grass. We had a good time out anyway often under the studious gaze of the locals. ;? )

  20. Out and about today—heading, incidentally, to GM Marzio Muscedere’s “Murder House!” for #DCCRPG for my monthly F2F #TTRPG meetup.

I was on the front line for #OpalCard’s teething problems, and let me tell you, as finicky and unworkable a piece of shit *that* was when Sydney rolled it out, it has nothing on #MyWayPlus. At least charging and validation worked, even if commuters couldn’t understand the fare structure.

I can’t even convince MyWay+ to tap me on.
