  1. After a drizzly start for a walk along the coast path from Penbryn, most of it lost from view in low cloud, the sky cleared as I reached Llangrannog. I treated myself to lunch (with some Welsh cider) then continued onto the Lochtyn Peninsula, heading back inland before more weather rolled in.

  2. So this #squirrel has outwitted me again. They had managed to get around the dome baffle, so I hung it on a chain so they couldn’t reach. But they have a technique that involves stretching down the chain as far as they can then ‘gracefully’ sliding over the top of the dome and dropping off, hoping to catch hold of the peanut feeder as they fall. 9 times out of 10 I’ve watched them miss, but occasionally they are successful and cling on tight, even while swinging wildly in the wind.

  3. Smarty pants squirrel 🐿️

The adjacent feeder can still hold onto its ‘squirrel-proof’ claim.

  4. Our new house has an oil-fired #Rayburn that does heating, hot water (can be heated separately by immersion) and cooking (have gas hob, microwave and electric oven also). Have just been using Rayburn for hot water so far but will need heating soon and I’d like to try cooking with it. Does anyone have any tips?

I know they aren’t cheap to run (also oil!) and will be looking at other options so not looking for alternative suggestions rn - want to live with it for a season but use it best. Tx

  9. Oink!

A very happy & friendly Gloucestershire Old Spot on a smallholding I stayed at yesterday. Head scritches (scritches generally) were much appreciated.

  10. No waymark yet this week for #WaymarkerWednesday, but I do have a #milestone. I’ve missed #MilestoneMonday!

This is the 5 mile marker stone on the Haytor granite tramway, at Yarner Wood, near Bovey Tracey.

  11. Sparrowhawk just slammed into the garden hedge. I didn’t see its quarry (probably a dunnock - we have them in abundance) but whatever it was lives to see another day. The sparrowhawk flew off empty-taloned, probably a bit embarrassed.

  12. Haven’t done one of these for a while.

Meanwhile, it’s a rare day in an actual office for me. Know where I’d rather be 😁.

  13. Stepping stones across Waterhead Creek, East Portlemouth #Devon. It’s also a ford on an unmetalled road, which continues north to South Pool as this lovely #HollowWay #SlowWays

  14. Another lovely holloway & into the week we go.

  16. So I made it to Ipplepen. A bit later than planned but I’m not really on a schedule today. The steep lanes up out of Totnes were so peaceful, lots of birds in the trees & hedges. Had a lovely tuneful aerial display from a large flock of linnets. Watched this greater spotted woodpecker for some time, moving between two veteran trees. Still lots of butterflies about in the early autumn sunshine. On my way to Torquay now.

  17. Reviewed #SlowWays Okehampton to Chagford today (with a side quest to Belstone). Had drizzle, driving rain (my boots leaked, despite reproofing ☹️ - having wet feet sucks) then sunshine. Fortunately I was sheltered from much of the rain by some gorgeous green, mossy #holloways. The one in 3rd pic was incredible - a deep, narrow bridleway leading to a ford & stepping stones over the river Teign (one for my top 10).

  18. Reviewed a couple of #SlowWays today, Moretonhampstead to Widecombe-in-the-Moor then on to Ashburton. Lovely bluebell-lined paths, a couple of #holloways & quiet lanes with hazy views across #Dartmoor. The routes followed parts of the #DartmoorWay & #TwoMoorsWay but I didn’t see many other walkers. Lots of birds & animals to say hello to though.

  19. @Rachelburch beautiful photos & some very lovely #holloways! Happy New Year!

  20. It’s foal season on Dartmoor atm and they’re all adorable. I took many many photos!

  21. Just saying hello to a couple of the Dartmoor ponies conservation grazing the local nature reserve near my house. They’re on loan to the council from the Natural England rangers at Yarner Wood.

The ponies eat off the grassland so that it doesn’t turn into brambles & scrub, maintaining the wildflower meadow, which in turn supports butterflies 🦋 .

  22. Lots of these primeval-looking beasties about at the moment, zipping over hedges & up & down paths at great speed. This one was very accommodating, staying still long enough for me to take a pic.

  23. This is so unbelievably sad 😢. I don’t think I could bring myself to go & see the destruction in person. And to think it was all done under cover of darkness. Shame on #PlymouthCityCouncil
