@helenclayton
Cats generally only interact with hedgehogs once in their lives. :-)

@helenclayton ah that’s brought back fond memories of the old #CreamFirst vs #jamfirst arguments on Twitter. About all it was good for by the end
-
@helenclayton I am seeing them daily... Here is another one I saw this afternoon

@Henrysbridge @helenclayton @SuneAuken I didn’t think I had strong feelings one way or the other on the topic, but seeing that visual representation, I now know that that just looks WRONG. So I’m clotted #CreamFirst 😱😌

This image is, of course designed to set the whole thing off again.
How can Mastodon allow such a horror to be shown? This should be flagged as sensitive!
Always and only #jamfirst
To avoid doubt, this is correct...

Then as someone who plays the guitar, I'll stand on the position that one needs to #JamFirst. And I will not be moved.

Some mysterious rustling, a half eaten marigold and some random blueberries in the greenhouse today revealed to be the work of a vole! It just appeared all of a sudden before squeezing under the closed door. I didn’t think our blueberries were ready but maybe they are…or were.

I am curious to see where our hedgehogs go on their trundlings and suspected they were coming and going under the fence into the neighbours’ field so set up my camera. There are SO many comings and goings. Some make more of a meal of it than others (for some reason they’re not using a bigger hole that the pheasants use 🤷♀️). Anyway I’ve stitched 3 videos taken over a space of 6 minutes. Hard to be sure but I think two different hogs - one in then another out and back in…maybe.

I think I might be getting my sourdough mojo back. I’d lost it for a while. The loaf may look a bit anemic but was baked through and the crust good and cronchy!

Please take a moment to enjoy watching a hedgehog drinking (and sneezing) to the accompaniment of the dawn chorus this morning.

#BloomScrollingWithABee a common carder bee I think.

Lots of #hedgehog activity last night - it almost outnumbered the mouse/vole activity for the first time in a while! Also seemed to be the same hog going back for seconds, thirds and fourths so could be a mum with babies to feed. Time will tell.

I tooted a week or so ago a pic of what I thought was my last apple tree to bloom. But I’d forgotten about this one. Mère de ménage which produces an apple perfect for the classic Apple Charlotte dessert. Chap who came to help prune was amazed the tree was still standing, let alone alive. It leans at an impossible angle and the trunk is more dead wood than live. It had a gentle prune to remove dead weight and it seems so much better for it. The bees appreciate it too 🐝💚.

The baby bunnies appear to have hopped the nest in the veg patch so that’s good news for my veg, though I will miss seeing them.
Anyone with #hedgehog expertise know how to deter mice and voles from feeding stations? I seem to be supporting the entire population and they’re leaving no kibble for the hogs.
-
I seem to be feeding more mice and voles than hedgehogs atm but there’s enough to share. They’re pretty cute too.

It’s a gardening day today and a wonderful day for it too. #FootpathFriday and #FingerpostFriday from Wednesday’s bimble.

I’ve been chiffchaffed! It is officially spring.
Not the cleanest shot but I like how floofy they look.

Decorating the Christmas cake was a bit of a last minute affair but I think I got away with it.

I’ve just experienced my first rotten egg while baking 🤢. Of course this was the one time I didn’t break the egg into a separate bowl before adding to rest of the ingredients 🙄. I’ve cleaned up, almost finished retching at the mere thought of it and prepare to start again. I am scared to crack the next egg.

From a walk around the block earlier. Hops growing on the farm shop shed and what I believe is an old artichoke gall on an oak tree in my hedge. I think galls are quite niche so happy to get an expert view!

It prompted me to fish some leaves out of the pond. I always put stuff on the side to allow critters to crawl back in…like this little guy.
