I'm pretty bummed that #Indicator didn't follow up on its #luchador film releases with more. I really expected them to release at least a few more #Santo films. Did they plan to?
I was hoping for...
Operation 67
Santo and Blue Demon vs the Monsters
The Mummies of Guanajuato
The Treasure of Montezuma...and maybe a few more of the luchadora films.
Too bad. A real disappointment.

I could have sworn #Criterion released a bluray of Space is the Place.

Listening to Amlux, by #Merzbow. Awesome guitar dirges with moments of near-tactile granular noise grey-outs and digital erosion. I struggle to do it justice.
-
God, what’s wrong with me that I’m even weakly considering this? I don’t even know this skate brand.

This one featured a guest sidekick, José "Mantequilla" Nápoles, who was very endearing. He did something that Santo never deigns to do: try to emote. His only screen appearance.

Beautiful car in this one. Internet movie car database says 1965 Pontiac Bonneville.

Merzbow and John Wiese are doing amazing work together. Here's why I think it works... Wiese is like a virtuoso of noise. He's almost too on top of things. The Merzbow strength, in my opinion, is a kind of kitchen-sink approach and a total absense of technique and even judgement of what he's doing (that's how I hear it, anyway). Together, though I think Wiese dominates, there is a pretty effective balance.

#KungFu people: I'm trying to remember what kung fu movie has a scene in which Gordon Liu jumps from log to log in a pond while practicing his pole technique. Is this 8 Diagram Pole Fighter? I'm not talking about the scene in 36th Chamber where he has to balance on the spinning logs to cross the little moat.

Just about the only thing that grabbed me amongst this month’s #CriterionChannel stuff — the least Criterion of films. Last few weeks of the gift subscription I was given. Probably won’t be renewing.

Sometimes I think having a woman like Gloria Grahame on screen can take the place of or give the illusion of visual flair.
Like, there’s nothing exceptionally striking about most of the photography in In a Lonely Place, but you come away thinking it was spectacular because of how many frames she’s in.

Finally using the three-month Criterion channel gift subscription that my sister gave me two years ago.
Great selection of movies and additional content, but so poorly organized and curated. You’d think there’d be tools for searching by country, decade, genre, etc. There is nothing like that. You can’t click on a director and see what other movies there are by him or her. Just the least fun, least browsable app.

It's adorable how youtubers doing product reviews explain that, though they got the expensive product for free, that won't affect their views and opinions on it.
You're getting something valuable for free and you're making an advertisement for it (with a few token quibbles). You are working for them.

Blofeld → modular interactivity.
(Mainly an excuse to make a collage for the thumbnail.)

Final update. After two weeks of ownership, I can say I’ve never had as much fun programming a keyboard synth.
I’m sure there are people who perform with it, but I think it’s ideal for people who like to sit and program one sound for an hour. Or ideal, maybe, for people who love modular. It scratches the same itch for me. The sort of meditative, concentrated state is the same.

After five days with the #Blofeld, I’m pretty enamored. I tried the Hydrasynth and didn’t like it. I don’t know why this synth, which is similar in many ways, is hitting the spot when the Hydrasynth didn’t.
-
#Blofeld users: are you able to adjust the amplitude envelope using the under-screen knobs? I keep trying to but only the four matrix encoders work for that. It’s tripped me up a few times. If that’s the worst of the bugs, I can handle it, but I think I’d feel better if I knew that was a universal issue, not particular to mine.

I can’t believe how much ink I’ve spilled (digitally) making notes about #Santo movies on Letterboxd. This week, I managed to find another three films that I hadn’t seen, in crappy quality of course. And I’ve been putting off watching the 80s ones, for fear of what’s it’s going to do to my image of Santo in his prime (i.e. prior to 1971). I’ll eventually watch them — for science — but I’m trepidatious to say the least.
