I'm old enough to remember when Criterion exercised curatorial discipline. I guess now it's just a race to mop up property rights.
I know these are someone's favorite movies, and I know discussions of canon or even quality are decidedly passé, but these films are several tiers below essential arthouse cinema, and they aren't the worst movies that Criterion has released.

It's interesting to see what is apparently most-watched on the #Criterion channel. I always expect it's going to be the blockbusters and comedies and action movies — the stuff that even the cinema snobs put on when nobody's watching — instead of the more challenging capital-C #Criterion stuff.
There's a bit of that here, with Silence of the Lambs and Bill & Ted, but people are watching old classics, too.

Not surprising the consummate thespian picks some very theatric (live theatre) based, or movies very tied to theatre.
Yet another instance of 12 Angry Men calling to me. I need to heed the call.

This is seriously cool. Walk into a virtual Criterion Closet and pick your own favourite DVDs from their collection. (Criterion produce DVDs and run a series on YouTube where film well known film people get to choose their favourite films from a real-life closet of DVDs.). From a sheer programming point-of-view, it is stunning but the overall execution is a masterpiece.

@thetonearm Before my dad passed away in 2011, I'd look at photos taken of him, and would consider that the latest photo taken of him as an old man, was the "real" him.
Once he passed away, I had an epiphany that my dad, in fact, existed equally in all of the photos taken of him.
He transcended time.
I think the Eno documentary treats Enos career in a similar way. The editing allows Eno's entire career to speak with equal importance.

@thetonearm We watched the documentary with Eno and its really well done.
This may be difficult to express, but a documentary usually follows a person's career as a linear progression.
Here, all parts of Eno's life is expressed equally. Slipping forward and back following a discussion. The result is that Eno exists equally in all points of his life. Fascinating.
I'd like to think we all deserve to view our own lives that way.

This is not the #solution - all the #UK #gas & #electricity #companies need to be taken back into #public #ownership, as do the #water & #rail #firms. They should NEVER have been privatised in the first place! These things are #public #utilities, & should satisfy the #criterion of public #utility - NOT that of #private #profit!
