  2. My favorite ever movie about a President is Secret Honor, a one-man film of Philip Baker Hall who has never been better as Richard Nixon drunkenly monologuing into a tape recorder about his life and career, giving a picture of a complex if ultimately evil person. Directed by the great Robert Altman. Re-watching now, in a #Criterion DVD.

  4. Over 20 Robert Altman films are now on the #Criterion Channel. Prêt-à-Porter was almost universally panned on its release in '94. Having watched it with little in the way of expectations, however, I found it a lot of fun. Certainly, coming immediately after The Player and Short Cuts, two of his absolute best, he's allowed some light slapstick and non-profundity. #film #movie #movies #robertaltman

  5. In 1965, Buster Keaton appeared in a film written by Samuel Beckett, shot by Boris Kaufman (brother of Dziga Vertov), produced by Barney Rosset of Grove Press. Alain Resnais visited the 1964 location shoot and took this picture.

    Available on the Criterion Channel.

  7. "Home at last!"

Rewatched "Three Colours: White" by Krzysztof #Kieslowski, and it's very droll. Here, "Charlie" (Karol) has returned to a rapacious post-Wall Poland after losing it all in an equally rapacious Paris. It's a free world. #cinema #cinemastodon #criterion #movies

  8. Get real! Computer scientists create a digital society in WORLD ON A WIRE (1973). Rainer Werner Fassbinder's weird and slightly kinky sci-fi mystery anticipates virtual reality years before the term was coined. Originally made for German TV, WORLD ON A WIRE is presented on Criterion Channel as two 105-minute films. Here's our discussion of part 1.

  9. Happy 49th to John Berry's CLAUDINE (1974) w/ #DiahannCarroll and #JamesEarlJones.

It's one of the true gems of 1970s cinema. And it's on #Criterion Blu-ray.

  10. Taking Mrs Bread to the #THEATRE today (because we are fancy people). Going to the #Criterion to see #TheUnfriend. I'm quite excited. Believe it's #StevenMoffat's first play and I love #ReeceShearsmith and #AmandaAbingdon. Means we are abandoning the kids for a few hours and actually going for food at #MildredsSoho (again - because we are fancy people). I am wearing a #SuitJacket because I am a #nob and even tried on a #TurtleNeck but I looked like a #paedo so I #TookItOffAgain.
