I wandered over here because the categorical server I joined was taken over by people with an agenda, and firm opinions on how everyone else should use the Fediverse. Also rude and threatening, and blocked this which had a half-dozen people I followed or vice versa.Why did other people choose this server?
Encourage movement: promote specific interest groups.
We do need another photography server. Or three. -

Warum die ständige Kritik an mastodon.social? Anstatt die Tatsache zu begrüßen, dass Menschen über mastodon.social dem Fediverse beitreten, wird gegen die Instanz gearbeitet. Das zeigt für mich das zentrale Problem dezentraler Netzwerke: Anstatt sich über Wachstum zu freuen und sich gegenseitig zu unterstützen, arbeiten die Menschen gegeneinander.

Why the constant criticism of mastodon.social? Instead of welcoming the fact that people are joining the Fediverse through mastodon.social, the instance is being worked against. That, for me, shows the central problem of decentralized networks: instead of being happy about growth and supporting each other, people work against one another.

I don't know if this is how things work for other Fediverse apps, but on Mastodon, if you reply to someone's post and remove their tag in your reply they won't be notified about the reply so there's a good chance they won't see it.
Therefore, if you're trying to have a conversation with somebody, leave the tag in.
If you're dunking on them and trying to hide your reply so others will see it and they won't, that's shitty; don't do that.
