  2. I've fallen down a rabbit hole of trying to find out why June 16th is #CaptainPicardDay. Or, more specifically, why and when that date was collectively agreed upon.

The short version is that it's based on converting the stardate in the episode "Pegasus" (47457.1) to a calendar date (which isn't something one can actually do, since stardates have never been used remotely consistently).

  3. CW: Discussion on the emerging big bad on Picard.

Regarding the evolution of the Changeling cell.

They have been able to beat all the traditional tests: transporter scans, blood tests, etc.

In “Imposter”, Beverly discovers the answer.

Lore-wise, we know they've had the knowledge to make a Changeling assume a "fully solid form". After all, it is what they did to Odo after he killed a Founder in "Broken Link".

    Screencap'd the sources.

  5. Picard Season 3 reconned at least Picard Season 2 and that's awful.

Star Trek, as far as I can remember, has never negated canon. In Season 2 Jurati changed the Borg. For the better. Now, in Season 3, Picard and the others say no Borg for 10 years, and they're back to being bad guys.

They negated all of Season 2 (and even a bit of Season 1) for a TNG reunion. Put fan service over canon. It disappointed me greatly and I haven't seen the finale yet.

  6. CW: Mandalorian Spoilers

As follow up, I just saw this week’s #themandalorian - and yeah, it was a kick to see #ahmedbest be in the universe and not be fucking annoying and the air battle with the vulture thing was a thrill, but otherwise the episode was inert and emotionally empty. Looking forward to #picard tonight.

  8. I've been processing some songs with MusicBrainz Picard in my spare time and the experience with Jellyfin has improved so much! It automatically finds all the metadata reliably, songs are in the correct order, there are no weird duplicate items... I also added a lyrics plugin to the Jellyfin instance and it automatically found most of the lyrics for the music online. Combined with Finamp, it is so enjoyable to use!

  11. PICARD: Is that what you're doing here? Trying to recapture those feelings?
WORF: Yes. Well, not entirely. I was trying out a new Scent of Targ incense that I found on the MessageWebs.

  12. I can definitely see #Picard and #BeverlyCrusher getting married. I can't see them getting divorced. That feels like the writers wanting it both ways

We finished our #MST3k style watching of the entire series. I liked Data more, and LaForge less, than I expected. Crusher more, Troi less (or really the Troi writers abusing the hi-potential character)

Next is the #StarTrek #TNG movies and then #DS9. I'd only watched a handful tng eps at the time, but I think I've seen exactly 0 ds9.

  18. I was cautiously optimistic about Picard. Alas… So far, it’s making the same mistakes as previous seasons and the early seasons of Discovery, too – dragging things out, teasing, explaining instead of showing, forcing drama instead of letting it evolve. Spoilers follow. Make no mistake, I am here for the cast. It seems that we are going to get a steady drip of introductions, one at a time. Worf this week (in the last two minutes. And mostly out of focus). Probably Geordi next week, Lore after that, and I’m guessing we will get Deanna last. This is frustrating because what we are here for is to see how everyone has changed, and how those changes affect their interactions and relationships. Instead, the show is filling the space around the sparse TNG cast introductions, with lots of recycling. We can call them Easter Eggs if we like, but unlike in Lower Decks, the whole show relies on the past rather than create its own story. The very moments of Trek lore that truly were magical – Enterprise in Spacedock, Kirk meeting his son, the reveal of the scary enemy ship, the ostentatious bad guy twirling in the command chair, the meetings in seedy dives with persons of ill repute – these were done right the first time. I’m guessing episode 3 will evoke the Battle in the Mutara Nebula and instead of excited, I’m just resigned. But hey, at least the new guy is a bit of Star Wars rogue! (then again, all of Picard’s putative sons tend to be, don’t they?) With all of the fluff, the B-plot with Raffi suffers to almost being unwatchable. There’s some promise there but it’s wasted, and relies on exposition rather than character as a shortcut since we need to cut back to the A-plot which is going nowhere. Everything that has happened in the A-plot would have happened in the first two acts in a regular TNG episode by now. I’m not alone in being underwhelmed. Den of Geek is also asking, are we there yet? Escapist goes into more detail about the deja-vu. And we still are criminally under-utilizing Seven of Nine. Related
